THE BONES OF JONES TOO HARD FOR VERA
THE BONES OF JONES TOO HARD FOR VERA
By Andre Zurbrug | March 21, 2010

One well-placed elbow is all it took from light heavyweight Jon "Bones" Jones to finish off Brandon Vera tonight at the 1STBANK Center in Broomfield, Colorado as the UFC made it's debut on VERSUS. Both men came out fast into an immediate clinch, where Jones quickly swept Vera to the ground. Vera, however, was able to push him off and get the action back to the feet. After another clinch, Jones landed a knee before easily taking Vera back down to the ground, where he looked to rain down some big shots. For the most part, Vera was able to control Jones and prevent him from doing any serious damage.  read more

Moments ago, in front of 51,000 fans at the Esprit Arena in Dusseldorf, Germany, IBF & WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko successfully defended his title, knocking out challenger Eddie Chambers in the final seconds of the last round. The first 11 rounds were relatively dull and uneventful, with Klitschko controlling all of the action behind a series of jabs and right hands. As the fight progressed, Klitschko's trainer, Emanuel Steward, continued to stress the importance of making a statement by not letting the fight go to the scorecards.  read more

FROM PILLAR TO POST: PACQUIAO, INTRIGUE, CONCERN, BLOOD TESTING AND MISMATCHES
FROM PILLAR TO POST: PACQUIAO, INTRIGUE, CONCERN, BLOOD TESTING AND MISMATCHES
By Danny Howard | March 20, 2010

Pacquiao-Clottey was a well-oiled bust, wasn't it? When you combine a bad undercard, some of the worst commentary in any live sporting event I've ever seen, and an HBO quality main event, what don't you get? Your money's worth! All the credit to Pacquiao for at least dazzling us with his work effort, but it was as early as the fourth round that Pacquiao wasn't taking the fight seriously anymore. The soon to be immortalized "Bang" tirade  by Jim Lampley was absolutely hilarious. As a matter of fact, if you threw in some "pows," "whammos" and "zort's", it'd be right out of the old Batman show.  read more

ATLAS SAYS MAYWEATHER WILL HAVE A VERY GOOD NIGHT AGAINST PACQUIAO
By Ben Thompson | March 20, 2010

"Pacquiao, he was a little bit more banged up than you would've thought you'd see with a guy who dominated the fight," commented ESPN boxing analyst Teddy Atlas as he shared his thoughts on Manny Pacquiao's recent performance in his unanimous decision victory over Joshua Clottey. Despite winning nearly every round on all three judges scorecards, Atlas believes that Pacquiao may lack the necessary defense to be successful should he step in the ring with Floyd Mayweather Jr. "So what do I say about that? I say that you can find Pacquiao. I say you can touch him. I say if you can do that, Mayweather, if they get in there, can have a very good night," he continued.  read more

I don't think he even thinks it will be an easy fight.  One thing I have learned from being in his camp is that he is very professional, he takes everything seriously, every fight seriously and he goes into the fight prepared.  I think he is going to do the same thing this time...if he is not prepared, it is going to be a long night for him. Trust me," stated heavyweight contender Eddie Chambers as he talked about Saturday's clash when he takes on IBF & WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko. DAVID HAYE IS TAKING "AWKWARD" RUIZ SERIOUSLY
By Evan Korn | March 18, 2010

Heavyweight beltholder David Haye knows he can't underestimate John Ruiz when the two fight April 3 from the MEN Arena in Manchester, England. That last time he did that, it was 2004, and the Brit lost his undefeated record to veteran warhorse Carl Thompson. In the build-up to his first title defense, Haye is displaying a more respectful side to his usually boastful personality. "He's a lot tougher and a lot more durable than a lot of people give him credit for," Haye told BBC Sport.  read more

"All we have is the satellite numbers and they are very strong," stated promoter Bob Arum as he discussed the pay-per-view numbers from Manny Pacquiao's welterweight title defense against Joshua Clottey this past weekend at Cowboys Stadium. According to Arum, the preliminary numbers from the satellite companies are encouraging, but because they have yet to receive all the reports from the numerous cable systems, he's hesitant to make any predictions on what the final numbers may be.  read more

HOW THE "SIX" LOST ITS "SUPER"
HOW THE "SIX" LOST ITS "SUPER"
By Danny Howard | March 18, 2010

Last year, Showtime unveiled their master plan to exploit the girth of talent in the 168lb division, creating a round robin tournament we've come to know as the "Super Six." It was a great move by Showtime thanks to the great amount of attention it generated, but an unfortunate turn of events has squandered whatever momentum Showtime had in promoting this tournament. The first round was plagued by awful fights and the second round of fights have been constantly pushed back due to injuries, leaving the public to wonder if there is any reason to care for the rest of the tournament.  read more

THREE WEAKNESSES IN MAYWEATHER; CAN MOSLEY OR PACQUIAO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THEM?
By Scott Canipe | March 18, 2010

This past Saturday night, Manny Pacquiao exhibited through 12 rounds why he is considered to be the pound-for-pound best fighter in boxing. According to CompuBox punch statistics, he threw 1,231 punches and thoroughly dominated his opponent, Joshua Clottey, whose output was a meager 399.  That being said, Clottey is a defensive-minded fighter, so when 1,231 punches were coming at him with blinding speed from unorthodox angles, he curled up into a shell like a turtle. The fight lacked drama and many in boxing circles predicted that it would conclude that way. Regardless, Pacman fever rages on!  read more

WITH A TITLE SHOT ON THE LINE, ABNER MARES ISN'T LOOKING AHEAD TO YONNHY PEREZ
By Tim Harrison | March 18, 2010

Abner Mares got his start in boxing the way many others before him have; he followed in the footsteps of an older sibling. Mares put on his first pair of boxing gloves at only seven years of age and his star has risen ever since. Mares had a decorated amateur career, winning several gold and silver medals in competitions, such as The World Junior Championships, The Pan-American Games and Central American Games. Overall, his amateur record is reported as 112-8, with 84 KO's. When asked which of his amateur bouts most prepared him for his turn as a professional boxer, Mares points to his Olympic loss to Zsolt Bedak rather than his win over current featherweight titlist Juan Manuel Lopez.  read more
