TIMOTHY BRADLEY: "I'M GOING TO DESTROY MANNY PACQUIAO ON JUNE 9TH"

By Percy Crawford | May 03, 2012
TIMOTHY BRADLEY:

"All of the work to me is easy work, man. I might change my name to The Easy Work Team. Team Easy Work! I see things that I can definitely exploit and I will exploit in this fight. Man, I am a smart fighter, man. I don't get a lot of credit for that, man, but I'm gonna show everybody how smart I am in the ring come June 9th, man. I can definitely be a matador or a bully, baby, and I'm just gonna put it all together on June 9th. When I leave that night, I'm gonna be the new welterweight champion of the world...I'm telling you that you are going to witness history that night. I'm definitely coming to seek and destroy, man, and I'm going to destroy Manny Pacquiao on June 9th," stated jr. welterweight champion Timothy Bradley, who is sounding even more confident than ever before less than 6 weeks before his showdown with 8-division world champion Manny Pacquiao. Check out what else he had to say about the fight and much more.

PC: How is everything going my man?

TB: Everything is good. Everything is going according to schedule, man. I'm just working hard, man, every single day, and just putting in that work, man. Everything is looking good and running smooth. I'm really happy with this camp and I can't wait, man. I can't wait. I'm ready right now. If the fight was Saturday, let's do it, baby.

PC: Are you doing two-a-days or three-a-days; what's the schedule like?

TB: Every other day is three-a-days, but for the most part, it's two-a-days, but every other day is three-a-days. I'm training about 5 to 6 hours a day and it varies, man. I got my strength coach, which I go with him twice a week, then I got my sparring I do 3 times a week, and I train on Saturday too. I have my running I have to do at night time and one day a week, I do my bike. It's just work, man, every day, man.

PC: Full-time job, right? Damn, that's a lot.

TB: Yeah, it's a full-time job, man, and Sundays are normally my days to just rest, man. Sunday is my day completely off.

PC: At first, you truly felt like the underdog because everyone counted you out. The closer we are getting to the fight, it appears people are giving you a great chance. Do you ignore the people that give you a chance because you embrace the underdog role or is that just giving you more confidence heading into the fight?

TB: Nah, the people know what's going to go down, man. Everyone pretty much knows what's going to go down. They know that I come to fight and they know that I bring a different kind of intensity to the ring. They know that I'm a smart fighter. People are definitely starting to pay attention to what I do in the ring and they know that I'm very fast. They know that I do my homework. They know that I work very hard and they know that I am very determined. When you have all of those factors, man, it's hard to beat a fighter like that. They know at the end of the day, man, Bradley gonna put it all on the line and do whatever it takes to win the fight. So, hey, I'm rolling with Bradley for this fight. it's not catching me by surprise. I think a lot of people see mentally that I'm very focused and they see mentally that I'm very game, and a lot of people are liking what they are hearing. They definitely are jumping on board.

PC: One of the lines you always use, and I personally like the line a lot, but you always say that you don't apologize for anything that happens in that ring. Explain that a little more, Tim?

TB: Whatever happens, if there is an accidental foul, like a low blow, or something like that, I'm not going to sit there and make-up and all of that because those things do happen. Sometimes, if they pull your head down and you throwing a body punch, sometimes there is a low blow there. It's like I don't foul intentionally, but sometimes fouls do occur because it's a fight and I'm not gonna sit there and run up to 'em and say I'm sorry. You know, from a distance, I may be like, "Hey, my bad." I might apologize from a distance, but it's not going to be no hugging and kissing going on, baby. It's gonna be war in there. It is what it is and that's what I mean. I don't do anything dirty intentionally, but it's a fight, man; it's not a dancing contest. You know what? I can use my roughhouse tactics if I want to and definitely mix it up in there, man.

PC: During the press tour, you had a chance to size Manny up. Was he bigger than you anticipated, smaller, or about what you expected?

TB: He wasn't really in fight shape at the time. He looked a lot smaller than what I thought he would be. He got some big ol' legs, man. His calves are tremendous; they swole, man, but he really had a small frame. If you look at me, I'm way denser. I'm just solid and bigger all the way around. His legs are definitely bigger than mine are, so his weight is definitely in his legs and my weight is definitely up top, but I do have some really strong legs as well. It was just strange meeting him for the first time. I have my ways of sizing people up. Everybody has their own way. I definitely have my way and I was able to size him up when I did see him.

PC: Berto and Ortiz are doing it. You see a lot of fighters requesting or doing more strenuous forms of testing. You have always been an advocate for it. I know you guys aren't doing additional testing, but if it was offered, would you have been open to it for this fight?

TB: I'm always open to anything that will definitely help the sport. If something would have presented itself like that, I would have been all for it. The fact that it didn't doesn't bother me at all. I'm an athlete, man, and I work extremely hard. I believe that using drugs don't really help you in fighting. I think that that stuff helps people in other sports and thing like that, but as far as boxing goes, I don't think that it really benefits you. I've seen fighters that tried and they used that stuff and it really didn't do anything for them. If they are using that stuff, they need to be aware that they really are cutting their life short. That stuff is foreign to the body and in the long run, they are going to have to deal with some health problems and health issues later in life. Is the money and the fame and all of that worth it, man? Is it really worth it? In and out of the hospital every single day? I don't think it's worth it at all. You might as well stay clean, be the best you can possibly be, and don't cheat. Just stay clean, man, and be a clean athlete and you will go far just doing that and working hard.

PC: Manny hasn't lost a fight in a long time and he's only looked vulnerable on a few occasions. How do you view Manny as a fighter?

TB: He's a tremendous fighter, man. He brings a lot to the table; great footwork, great speed, and great power. I don't think he's a dumb fighter. I think he's a smart guy in there. He looks to set up his punches; he just doesn't rush in there. He's a really good guy outside of the ring and I respect him as a champion, but a lot of people are saying this guy is invincible and he's unbeatable. In my eyes, nobody is invincible, dude. He bleed just like I do, he breathe just like I do, he sit down on a toilet just like I do, and he wake up in the morning just like I do, so he's a man and that's the way I view everybody. I don't fear anybody, man. I really don't, you know what I mean? I only fear God himself. I don't fear anybody in the human form, dude. I really don't. With that mindset, man, I feel that mentally I can't be broken in there. Can't nobody pay me enough money to take a dive. This is a fight and this ain't gonna be no walk in the park, you know what I mean? Like I said a couple of articles ago, easy work, man. All of the work to me is easy work, man. When I leave that night, I'm gonna be the new welterweight champion of the world!

PC: Well, you will have half of the world happy that you proved a fighter is not invincible and the other half upset with you for ruining any chance of a Mayweather/Pacquiao fight (laughing)?

TB: Well, it is what it is. I mean, as far as Floyd fighting Manny Pacquiao or whatever, they still can do it, but after June 9th I don't think a Mayweather/Pacquiao fight is gonna happen. When I win this fight, Floyd is somebody I would love to face. I always said if Floyd was in the game when I got to the top, I was gonna be the first man to beat him, so it's already on tape. I've already said that, and he's still in the game today. I thought he would be long gone, but he's definitely another guy that's on my hit list. I definitely want to get in there with Floyd too, but not looking past Manny Pacquiao. I know he's gonna be one helluva challenge and I'm definitely up for it and game for it, and I'm not just talking, baby, I'm gonna prove it on June 9th, and they are gonna be shocked. They gonna see this young boy come in there and do his thing. He gone see and if he is considered the best fighter in the world, I'm gonna beat him that night on June 9th.

PC: I had a fighter tell me the other day you and Mayweather would be a more interesting fight because both of you guys are undefeated. But like you said, first things first. Pacquiao is a helluva task. I look forward to all of your fights. Best of luck to you, Tim. Is there anything you want to say in closing?

TB: I just want to thank all of the fans out there for all of the support and everybody for backing me. I'm definitely going to put on a performance that the fans will be happy with. That's my ultimate goal, to have the fans happy. The people that spend their money on the pay-per-view, I want them to be happy. I don't want the fight to end on a headbutt or whatever after 4 rounds. When you pay your money, I want you to get your monies worth and you're going to see a real fight in there and I'm going to put it all on the line, man, for my family and definitely for the fans out there, so stay tuned June 9th. Don't miss it! Get that pay-per-view because I'm telling you that you are going to witness history that night. I'm definitely coming to seek and destroy, man, and I'm going to destroy Manny Pacquiao on June 9th!
