KEVIN CUNNINGHAM: "KELL BROOK...HE CAN GET IT, AS LONG AS HE COMES TO THE UNITED STATES TO GET IT"

KEVIN CUNNINGHAM:

"Devon's looking to defend his title and we don't have any problems with fighting our mandatory as long as he comes to the States. If he wants a shot at Devon's title, he can get it, but he's gotta come to the United States to get it as far as we're concerned. There's no way that we're going overseas....we have no intentions on vacating the title. Kell Brook is the mandatory. He can get it, as long as he comes to the United States to get it," stated world-class trainer Kevin Cunningham, who made it crystal clear that newly crowned IBF welterweight champion Devon Alexander plans on defending his title against any and all challengers, but if they want the title, they have to come take it! Check out what else he had to say!

BT: Kev, I heard you guys were already contacted by the IBF about fighting the #1 contender. Is that true?

KC: Yeah, we got a letter from the IBF saying that Kell Brook is the mandatory.

BT: Damn! That was quick.

KC: I guess they're trying to get that fight made. I'm going to be sitting down with Al this week to explore our options and all of our opportunities.

BT: There were some rumors already out there saying that Devon might vacate the title that he just won instead of fighting Brook. Any truth to that?

KC: That's not true. We didn't go in and fight the biggest puncher in boxing right now just to vacate the title. We could've fought anybody, but we fought Randall Bailey because we wanted a shot at the title, so we have no plans on vacating the title. If the Kell Brook fight is Devon's next fight, the only way it happens is if it happens in the US, because there's no way, no how will we go overseas to fight a guy that no one in America knows.

BT: Considering that Devon's the champion, I would hope that he wouldn't have to go overseas to defend his own title. Are they trying to say that Devon has to fight Brook in his backyard?

KC: I mean, Devon's one of the most recognizable names and one of the most accomplished champions in the game right now, so I wouldn't think that it would come down to being put in a situation where we would have to go overseas to fight someone. If we did make this fight, most people in America would say, "Who are you fighting?" When you tell them you're fighting Kell Brook, they're going to say, "Who is that?" I mean, it doesn't make sense, but, you know, we'll see what happens.

BT: So defending the title against the mandatory is definitely one of the opportunities you plan on exploring?

KC: Devon's looking to defend his title and we don't have any problems with fighting our mandatory as long as he comes to the States. If he wants a shot at Devon's title, he can get it, but he's gotta come to the United States to get it as far as we're concerned. There's no way that we're going overseas. I've been down that road, done that, and it ain't happening with Devon Alexander.

BT: So basically, Devon's the champion and he plans on staying the champion.

KC: Look, we have no intentions on vacating the title. Kell Brook is the mandatory. He can get it, as long as he comes to the United States to get it.
