SHANE MOSLEY: "I'M NOT SURE...I'M THINKING ABOUT IT"

By Ben Thompson | December 04, 2012
SHANE MOSLEY:

"I'm not saying I'm going to come back yet or not. I'm not sure, but I'm thinking about it though. If the right opportunity comes around, then maybe I'll come back. You never know. Like I said, if the right opportunity comes along, I'll be ready," stated future Hall of Famer "Sugar" Shane Mosley, who talked about the possibility of making a return to the ring in the very near future. Mosley announced his retirement from boxing shortly after suffering a unanimous decision loss to WBC jr. middleweight champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez this past May. Since that time, he's stayed in the gym helping his son, Shane Mosley Jr., with his amateur career, but he admits that he still sees some opportunities to win another world title in the welterweight division. In other words, Mosley thinks he still has enough left in the tank to defeat some of the current champions at welterweight.

"I'm not saying I'm going to come back yet or not. I'm not sure, but I'm thinking about it though. If the right opportunity comes around, then maybe I'll come back. You never know. Like I said, if the right opportunity comes along, I'll be ready," Mosley continued. "Especially at 147. 47 would be the prime weight for me right now; not fighting guys that's too big for me. Guys my weight, my size, I'm giving up a little bit of the age advantage, but they're giving up all the experience and maybe a little bit of size to me because I'm probably going to be stronger than them. It could be a great scenario. I mean, Bernard Hopkins is looking for another fight and is getting ready to fight probably a kid too, and he's 47 or 48."

And what exactly is the right opportunity for Mosley? "Well, the right opportunity is going to be either a title or getting ready to fight for the title in some kind of way. The money is always an important issue, but it's not a major issue. I mean, even if somebody tells you it's not, money's always going to be an important issue. I love to fight. I love to get in the ring, I love to move around, I love everything about boxing, the sport," he explained. "I love it, so I'm always going to be around it, but if the right opportunity comes around, it could be a title shot or it could be an iterim title shot, I would think I might be available. It just has to fit right."

"It's not really for certain yet. We're going to see. If the right opportunity is around the corner somewhere, then maybe I'll say that. If not, then I can't come out of retirement and fight Joe Blow," Mosley added.
