MARLON MORAES: "I WANT TO FIGHT FOR THE TITLE...IT'S MY TIME NOW"

By Percy Crawford | November 07, 2013
MARLON MORAES:

"I want to fight for the title, you know? I think it's my time now. I proved it. I went in there as the underdog against Miguel Torres and beat him and then I went in again as the underdog against Tyson Nam and knocked him out, and they game me Brandon Hempleman and he was a tough opponent and we fought hard for 3 rounds and I think I dominated him for 3 rounds, and then my last fight against Carson Beebe. He was a tough wrestler and one of the top guys in WSOF; he was 14-2 and now I think it's my time to fight for the title, man. I think I deserve it," stated World Series of Fighting bantamweight Marlon Moraes, who talked about his recent victory over Carson Beebe, his future plans and much more. Check it out!

PC: Congratulations on the very quick stoppage of Carson Beebe at the last World Series of Fighting event.

MM: Thank you. It was quick, but I'm definitely satisfied with my performance. I worked hard for that fight.

PC: I think the fight only lasted 36 seconds, but I'm sure you weren't expecting a quick fight like that. How was your preparation for this fight?

MM: Man, preparation was good. I trained my ground game with Ricardo Almieda and my wrestling with Frankie Edgar and man...I just gotta thank my team and my training partners. I was ready to go 5 rounds if I had to. I expected 3 hard rounds, but that's fighting, you know; you prepare for 3 or 5 hard rounds, but the victory could come in seconds. In MMA, you just have to be ready, and if you're not ready, you could lose. I felt like I could finish the fight at any second or any minute.

PC: Were you shocked at how he came out at you so fast and aggressive or did you kind of expect that?

MM: I thought he would throw some combinations, but he came hard trying to take me out. I was able to keep my composure and contain him with my boxing, but it all stems from my training camp. When I started this camp, I was a little bit hurt from my last fight, but when World Series called me and asked me to fight, I said, "Yes! Let's go; let's fight!" I did a lot of boxing and wrestling for this camp and then my foot got better and I was able to start doing everything. Then I went to New Jersey and did my strength training and, as I mentioned, my Jiu Jitsu with Ricardo Almieda and my wrestling with Frankie Edgar. It was a great training camp and that's why the fight turned out the way it did. I was so ready, man.

PC: What would you like to do next?

MM: I want to fight for the title, you know? I think it's my time now. I proved it. I went in there as the underdog against Miguel Torres and beat him and then I went in again as the underdog against Tyson Nam and knocked him out, and they game me Brandon Hempleman and he was a tough opponent and we fought hard for 3 rounds and I think I dominated him for 3 rounds, and then my last fight against Carson Beebe. He was a tough wrestler and one of the top guys in WSOF; he was 14-2 and now I think it's my time to fight for the title, man. I think I deserve it.

PC: Are you right back in the gym or you taking a little break?

MM: Man, like I said man, after my last fight, I was a little hurt and I got a little rest and I got right back in because they called me to fight again against Carson Beebe, but I'm in the gym now. I'm helping Frankie Edgar with the TUF show and I'm inside of the gym right now. I will be back training tomorrow. I just want to get better to where it will help me in my next fight.

PC: It definitely sounds like you have a great stable of fighters around you and that always helps.

MM: I was in Brazil 4 years ago in a house watching Frankie Edgar fighting and watching Ricardo Almieda and I never imagined I would be training with those guys one day, and now I'm with them, training with them and having them in my corner. I'm so proud to have them on my team. For me, it's something new every day. I'm gonna learn and get better day by day.

PC: Man, you really put on a show last Saturday. Congrats again and I definitely look forward to your next fight. Is there anything you want to say in closing?

MM: I want to thank you and FightHype. It's such a privilege to be talking to you guys. Thank all of my teammates: Frankie Edgar, Ricardo Almieda, Edson Barbosa...I know I'm gonna forget a couple, but they are all in my heart. I gotta thank my coaches Mark and Ricardo and just thank everybody!
