According to reports out of Mexico, former jr. middleweight champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez has confirmed what loyal FightHype readers already knew; that he will be facing hard-hitting jr. middleweight contender Alfredo Angulo when he makes his anticipated return to the ring on March 8 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. Canelo revealed the news during a conversation with José Luis Camarillo of NotiFight.com, where he referred to Angulo as "a strong, very dangerous fighter; gives good fights, and that's what people want to see."
Though no announcement has been officially made, FightHype revealed a month ago that representatives for Angulo were already in heavy talks with Golden Boy Promotions about the fight. Not long after that, Angulo's trainer, Virgil Hunter, also revealed that they were already training for the fight because all signs pointed to it coming to fruition. "[Canelo] is going to have prove that he can take a punch from a big jr. middleweight. He's going to have to prove that he can gut it because Alfredo can and he's motivated for this fight. He's already training, so if the fight comes about, we're ready," Hunter commented during an interview with FightHype.com. "We'll get into condition if everything comes through. From what I hear, there's a good chance that it could materialize. You don't want to get the go ahead and then go to work too late. It's better to go ahead and start preparing."
