Moments ago at the DC Armory in Washington D.C., IBF welterweight champion Shawn Porter made an impressive first defense of his title, knocking out former champion Paulie Malignaggi with ease in the fourth round. Porter was calculating and relentless, picking his spots behind a crisp jab while letting his hands go on the inside. Malignaggi was game to trade shots, but it was obvious that Porter was the stronger, bigger puncher.
A well-timed double left hook from Porter in the 2nd round appeared to hurt Malignaggi for the first time in the fight. Porter continued to land devastating punches throughout the 3rd round before finally landing a chopping right hand that sent Malignaggi to the canvas. Although Malignaggi quickly made it back to his feet and complained that it was rabbit punch, it didn't look like he was going to be able to weather the storm that was coming. After landing some stiff jabs, another leaping left hook from Porter rocked Malignaggi again in the 4th round. Smelling blood, Porter jumped on his prey, battering Malignaggi through the ropes for the final knockdown.
