KELL BROOK DETHRONES SHAWN PORTER; WINS MAJORITY DECISION TO CAPTURE IBF TITLE

Earlier tonight at the StubHub Center in Carson, California, undefeated welterweight Kell Brook scored the biggest victory of his career, defeating former champion Shawn Porter via majority decision to capture the IBF title. Brook used his superior boxing skills to neutralize the aggression of Porter, landing stiff jabs and right hands that had the champion's face bloodied by the middle of the fight. In the 7th round, Brook landed an uppercut, perhaps the best punch of the night, that appeared to momentarily rock Porter. Nevertheless, Porter continued to come forward swinging wildly to the body and the back of the head, but Brook did a good job of smothering his punches while landing his own crisp and effective counter shots. In the end, the judges scored the bout 116-112, 117-111, and 114-114, giving the nod to Brook.

Also on the card, super middleweight Anthony Dirrell got his revenge against former champion Sakio Bika, defeating him via unanimous decision by scores of 116-111, 117-110, and 114-113 to capture the WBC title. Plus, WBC lightweight champion Omar Figueroa kept his title and undefeated record intact, scoring a 9th round TKO victory over Daniel Estrada, and undefeated heavyweight contender Deontay Wilder made easy work of Jason Gavern, dropping him two times en route to a 4th round stoppage.
