TERRELL GAUSHA: "I HAVE JUST BEEN PUTTING IN WORK AND I'M READY TO PUT ON A SHOW"

By Percy Crawford | September 02, 2014
TERRELL GAUSHA:

"I'm excited. It's in Cincinnati and that's close to home. I'm an Ohio boy, so I'm excited. I'm going to have a lot of people come out there. It's exciting to be on a card with Adrien Broner, Raynell, and all my boys. I have just been putting in work and I'm ready to put on a show out there," stated up-and-coming jr. middleweight Terrell Gausha, who talked about his upcoming return to the ring this Saturday on the undercard of Broner vs. Taylor. Check it out!

PC: You're returning to the ring on the Broner/Taylor card. How do you feel, man?

TG: Ah man, I'm excited. It's in Cincinnati and that's close to home. I'm an Ohio boy, so I'm excited. I'm going to have a lot of people come out there. It's exciting to be on a card with Adrien Broner, Raynell, and all my boys. I have just been putting in work and I'm ready to put on a show out there.

PC: Do you ever put any pressure on yourself when you are fighting close to home like this?

TG: I really don't even look at it like that because you always wanna fight close to home. Once you're in that ring, it's just you and that person. You know you want to look good, but I wouldn't say it's pressure. It's just more about having support to turn up for and they give me that extra push.

PC: You have been real impressive lately. Do you feel like you are becoming a complete fighter now?

TG: Yeah, with time, I feel like I am developing my skills and learning a lot every time I step in the ring. Early on, I was just trying to find myself. I feel like I am developing and getting better each fight.

PC: Are you still out in California training, and if so, what has the work been like out there?

TG: Yeah, I actually live out here now, so I train out here full time. We work hard, we got great sparring, and I'm just staying at it. I haven't took no breaks, just after the fights, I'll take the weekends off and Monday, I'm back at the gym.

PC: You have had 4 fights in 2014. That's a lot of work, man. Do you like being this active or are you getting a little burned out?

TG: I like the activity really. I feel like if I have a tough fight where I feel as though my opponent gave me a good fight and it went the distance or something, then I would take some time, but right now, my last fight was a 1st round knockout, so as of now, I'm young, I'm feeling good, and I be ready to just hop back in there.

PC: You have already gone a full 10 rounds. What was that experience like for you?

TG: It was a good experience because I always wanted to see how it feels if I ever had to go the distance. You know we always want the knockout, but I was thinking in my mind that it will be somebody that can go the distance and I knew I would have to be in shape. So I wanted to see how it was and I felt good. I felt like I was in good shape and after the fight, I felt I could've went 2 more rounds. That was a good experience for me, being young in my career and being able to go 10.

PC: You have fought a lot of guys with both winning records and a ton of experience. Is that by design? Do you want to test yourself every time out?

TG: Yeah, I want a challenge. That's what I got in this game for. I want to fight people that will give me a challenge along the way. But with that being said, you gotta be smart at the same time. I want to fight exciting fights for the fans and give them what they wanna see, but I'm trying to climb up that ladder and you can't do that not fighting stiff opposition. You want to step it up gradually though, so we not gonna rush it, but we not gonna move too slow either.

PC: With the exception of the guys at the top, the middleweight division is wide open. Is that still the division where you wanna make your mark at or are you considering another weight class?

TG: I see a lot of competition there in the middleweight division, but I'm actually trying to get to 154 where there is also great competition. My next fight will actually be my first fight at 154. I've been working towards that, but we working anywhere between 154 and 160; we good. I just want to be able to let my body make 154 and I want to be a world champion in different weight classes and that's what we working on.

PC: Has it been difficult coming down to 54 or is doing it relatively easy for you?

TG: I'm feeling more comfortable now, but I'm not gonna lie, in the beginning, it was a little tough. But as I change my diet and my lifestyle, and since I been staying consistent with it, its been pretty easy. I'm walking around at a decent weight. My weight is not too far off right now. I feel good to tell you the truth, but in the beginning, it was kind of tough though.

PC: Like I mentioned already, you fought four times this year and Saturday will be your fifth fight of the year. How many more times would you like to go after that?

TG: Hopefully two more times or something like that. I'm trying to close it out with a bang. I want to get two more fights this year after this one and look forward to 2015 and do bigger and better things and get bigger fights.

PC: What is the biggest difference for you being on the west coast as opposed to the midwest?

TG: I'm gonna tell you, I think it's just the ability to stay focused. I got a good team out here and it's a lot of good work here. I'm able to stay motivated and get out of my comfort zone a little bit. There is a lot of motivation out here and that keeps me on my A game and I'm just staying focused, man.

PC: Best of luck on Saturday night and I look forward to speaking to you afterward. Is there anything else you want to say before I let you go?

TG: Nah, I'm good with that. We can close it out like that bruh.
