"Sometimes I tell Manny not to beat Algieri up too bad because then Mayweather is just going to run a little bit more. You know, he's scared of us now and he's going to be scared of us after we destroy this guy. But Mayweather, you know, show some balls and step up to the plate," stated world-class trainer Freddie Roach, who is confident that Manny Pacquiao's performance against Chris Algieri this Saturday will have undefeated pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather reluctant to negotiate a potential mega-fight with his fighter.
"I want a great performance, but again, I want the Mayweather fighter to happen, so maybe we'll let him last a couple more rounds," Roach commented during a recent conference call to promote Saturday's clash. "He's been talking more and more about Floyd. The more time goes by, the more he talks about it. He wants the fight badly, and after seeing Floyd's last couple of fights, he wants it even more. He just wants to prove that he's the best fighter in the world and he will take that 0 and give him his first 1."
Roach added, "It's been 3 1/2 years. I've been waiting for this fight for a long time. I've been anxious to get ready for this fight. I do like challenges. Mayweather is a challenge. He is a good fighter, but I'm just so tired of people asking me about if the fight is going to happen and so forth because I can't give them a real true answer because this guy keeps running away, running away, running away. I mean, if he's the best fighter in the world, step up to the plate!"
