"The thing is, there's some great competition at 160. You know, the fight coming up with Alvarez is a great fight and when Miguel wins that fight, then there's Triple G out there," stated Freddie Roach, world-class trainer of WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto, who briefly touched on their future plans during a recent conference call. Although Cotto is considered to be a small 160-pounder, Roach has no problem with him staying at the weight to defend his title against some of the bigger fighters in the division, including the hard-hitting undefeated WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin.
"Everyone is talking about he's got nobody to fight. I think Miguel Cotto would kick his ass. I just think we can outbox that guy. I don't think he's unbeatable. He's a good fighter, I know, but the thing is, we love challenges and that's a great challenge for us at 160," Roach stated with confidence. Cotto will reportedly reunite with Roach on December 7 at the Wild Card Boxing Club in Hollywood, California, where the two will begin training to get a head start on their next challenge, presumably a May or June clash with former jr. middleweight champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez.
