"Yeah, to answer the telephone. Simple as that! I think that fight should happen. I think the boxing fans deserve that fight. If boxing is to be considered a major sport, the fight has to happen," stated Hall of Fame promoter Bob Arum, who sounds as though he's ready to put egos aside to begin negotiations for a mega-fight between his fighter, 8-division world champion Manny Pacquiao, and undefeated pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather. Although Arum didn't exactly say he would be the one making the first call to get the talks started, he did give an impassioned speech urging for all parties to do everything they can to bring the fight to fruition.
"All the nonsense has to cease. Everybody should be working together to make that fight happen. There's no excuses anymore, none, so I'll be at the phone. Manny will be his phone. We're ready. You saw that FootLocker commercial. He showed you how ready he is," Arum stated as he took to the podium during the post-fight press conference following Pacquiao's dominant victory over Chris Algieri. "Frankly, speaking for Manny, for myself, we're tired. Everyplace we go, they ask us, 'When is it going to happen? When is that fight going to be made?' I mean, you cannot believe the number of times I'm questioned about this by just people, waiters, anybody, who want to no one question: When is the fight going to happen? I say enough is enough. Let's just make the fight happen. Let's get it done and let's get it done next fight for each fighter some time in the first six months of next year. Now we don't need any questions about it. That's our position and we're going to do what we can to make it happen."
