"No, I don't think we're gonna do a joint training camp. I want to keep those two guys a little bit separate because they both deserve individual time," stated Hall of Fame trainer Freddie Roach, who made it clear that he has no intentions of holding a joint training camp for his two biggest stars, WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao and WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto. Neither fighter currently has any solid plans for their next fight. That being said, Pacquiao is expected to make his return in April or May, while Cotto is in preliminary discussions for a clash with Canelo Alvarez being targeted for May or June. That means there's a strong possibility that the training camps of both fighters could overlap for several weeks. It's an issue, however, that their trainer is not concerned about.
"The thing is, Manny's next fight will be in the United States from what we see, and that means training camp will be at the Wild Card in LA and they'll both be training at my gym in LA, but I won't work them together. I will separate them and have a totally separate training camp," Roach explained prior to Pacquiao's dominant lopsided unanimous decision over the previously unbeaten Chris Algieri. In fact, according to Roach, Cotto already has plans to get a head start on training, as the two are supposed to reunite on December 7th at the Wild Card Boxing Club in Hollywood, California to begin preparations for their next challenge.
