"I mean, at one time he was on our radar, but he's not on our radar anymore because obviously if he's not proven himself, why should we take all the biggest and toughest fights in the world when he's fighting nobodies? And why should we give him the opportunity? Manny Pacquiao said he's never heard of him. Not many people have heard of who Kell Brook is," stated former world champion Amir Khan, who made it clear he has no plans of fighting IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook any time soon. Check out what else he had to say about Brook!
BT: Kell Brook recently announced that he'll be defending his IBF title against mandatory challenger Jo Jo Dan. I know you made a few comments on Twitter already, but what was your initial reaction when you heard about that fight?
AK: He's fighting Jo Jo Dan and then I see an article where he's calling myself out, he's calling Pacquiao and he's calling Mayweather out. Now he's calling all the big names out, right, but how's he going to get those big fights if he's going to be fighting these guys that are ranked very low in the 147 division? Look, I have to respect that he's a world champion, he won a world title, but nowadays, world titles don't really mean anything. I mean, it's a fight that he won, but it doesn't mean something. Now, he can keep hold of that world title fighting bums if he wants. I mean, no disrespect to Jo Jo Dan, but look, I think if that was his first defense, I thought maybe he was talking about fighting the bigger names like maybe Garcia and Maidana or Guerrero, but he don't want to fight those guys. Bradley was an option, so I mean, look, it just shows to me that he's just looking for that one big payday fight. I mean, at one time he was on our radar, but he's not on our radar anymore because obviously if he's not proven himself, why should we take all the biggest and toughest fights in the world when he's fighting nobodies? And why should we give him the opportunity? Manny Pacquiao said he's never heard of him. Not many people have heard of who Kell Brook is.
BT: It seems like everyone in the UK says that's big a fight for England. Considering that he hasn't been in with some of the big names that you've faced, do you consider it to be as big of a fight for the UK as everyone else does?
AK: Obviously in the UK, the reason it's a big fight is because we're both English, we're born in England, and it's a domestic fight. Now, if we did that fight in America, no on really would be interested in that fight. Nobody would be interested in that fight. Obviously I want the biggest fights where I get the most viewers. England is a very small country, but obviously I want to give my British fans the fights they want also because I'm loyal to them. But look, this is a time where I'm touching distance away from getting the likes of Manny Pacquiao, Marquez, Mayweather, so why should I drop to that level and take a back step to fight Kell Brook? I really think that's a back step.
