"If you watch how he fights, he keeps himself in great position. His weight transfers to all of his punches, so he's always ready to land a big shot and he can also take a good shot. That's why a lot of fighters don't want to fight him," stated former undisputed jr. middleweight champion Winky Wright, who shared his thoughts on undefeated middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin. Wright admitted that he's extremely impressed with Golovkin's punching technique and his willingness to fight all comers. That said, he also believes that some of his opponents have been less than willing to fight through his punching power based on his reputation alone.
"At the same time, what they are going to have to do is the fighter that's going to beat him is the fighter that's not dead. You can't never go into a fight dead. He's a great puncher, don't get me wrong. Some of these fighters, I think that some of the times that they get hit, it's just because of who he is. They're like, 'I'm going to go down before I get hurt.' They're not really hurt; they're stunned, but not really hurt," Wright explained during a recent conversation with FightHype.com. "If it was somebody else, they would probably keep fighting, but because it's him, they know if he lands a big shot, they're going to lay down and stay down, you know what I'm saying. Again, I'm not taking away nothing from him. I love the way he transfers his weight, the way he punches, he's exciting to see and that's what we need. We need a fighter that's not scared to fight nobody."
Wright added, "I'm going to tell you another fighter I like is Kovalev. If you try to come out and fight him, he'll come out and fight you and try to knock your head off. If you try to box him, he'll try to outbox you."
