KARIM MAYFIELD TALKS POTENTIAL FLOYD MAYWEATHER CLASH:

"It's just sweet being mentioned by one of the greatest...he mentioned me, so he's been doing his homework one way or another...I think he's trying to get that work. He ain't trying to have someone in front of him trying to outthink him because that ain't going to work...He's always had good fights with people that make him work...Let's do it, May vs. May in September," stated welterweight contender Karim Mayfield, who spoke more on the possibility of facing undefeated pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather. Check it out!

PC: Your name has been in the news a lot recently. Floyd Mayweather naming you as a possible opponent for his 49th fight will do that.

KM: Just being mentioned is sweet on the strength that I'm not a household name just yet. I'm not worldwide yet. I've done my things in the sport of boxing and been around and had some tough fights early on, but nevertheless, going back to your statement, it's just sweet being mentioned by one of the greatest.

PC: For him to mention your name at least let's you know that he has been keeping eyes on you.

KM: Ah yeah, for sure. A lot of times, you got guys that act like they don't know certain fighters, but he mentioned me, so he's been doing his homework one way or another or somebody's been in his ear. So it's all a plus for me.

PC: All fighters at all levels of the game at some point play out in their heads fighting the best or being in the ring with the best. Have you ever played out a fight between yourself and Floyd Mayweather in the past, or even since you were named as a possibility?

KM: Damn, that's a good question, man. You keep hitting me with some good questions (laughing). Yeah man, if you go back to some old footage of me and when guys ask me who would my dream match be, I would always say, "Mayfield and Mayweather in May!" It would be the real "Mayhem" or the real "MayDay!" History in the making type of deal. But I've seen it before and I'm sure a lot of fighters have. I painted the picture of that fight happening, so just to have him say my name makes the picture become a possible reality and it's surreal, to be honest.

When I first met him, he fought in my hometown, in the city, right down the street from the hood in San Francisco and he fought Jesus Chavez. He fought him in the main event and Pacquiao was actually on that card. That was my first pro fight because I had just begun boxing after I had like 2 amateur fights. When I seen him, we had scoopity-booed into the press conference. Just for people that don't know what scoopity-booed is, that's a Bay word or maybe just a Filmoe word, my hood word, for we snuck in one way or the other. Me and my coach got in where we fit in because we was intrigued. At the end of the press conference, I was like, "Let me get at him." Obviously he wasn't at the plateau of where he is now, but he was definitely one of the names. I said a few words to him like, "Good fight," and then I was like, "Yeah man, I'm gonna fight you one day." I don't remember what he actually told me, but it was something like, "Fasho, keep doing your thing." It wasn't a bad response. And it's funny because my boys were like, "Why did you say that to him? You should've played it cool." And I was like, "I don't know. I'm a pitbull and that was my out the gate moment." You know how it is when a pitbull see another pit, for some reason, he's already on edge. That's what it was. I was fresh in the game, straight from the streets, and that's just what came out. I don't know if that was the ideal thing to say because we had just met, but shit, I didn't know no better. I didn't know the proper etiquette of boxing.

PC: A lot of people look at both you and Andre Berto being possible opponents for Mayweather's last fight as him trying to get an easy fight. Neither one of you guys have been in many boring fights, so do you think he's just trying to go out on an exciting note because his last couple of fights haven't been the most thrilling fights because he made them look relatively easy?

KM: That's good observation, man, and I said the same thing. Anybody else that's going to box him, that's a wrap for them. It's going to be the same Floyd. But if it's somebody that's going to make him work...and I think he's trying to get that work. He ain't trying to have someone in front of him trying to outthink him because that ain't going to work, man. You look at the guys that made him work. You got a guy like Maidana, who is not even thinking at all and he brings the better fight out of Floyd. Even if you go back in his career, Jose Luis Castillo, who brought constant pressure in their first fight and didn't try to box him, that was a close fight that they said he lost, but I don't think he lost that fight. But that was a good fight. He's always had good fights with people that make him work. It's like Wayne say, "I ain't coming to box; we ain't boxing, we coming to fight." That's what time it is.

PC: When you get the news that you are up for fighting on the biggest stage in boxing, mentally, that does something to a boxer. You said you are about to take a run now. Have you upped the ante since then?

KM: Absolutely. Let's be honest, I have been ducked in the past and with that being said, I haven't been active like that. But I don't have a regular job. I have "MSI", which is multiple sources of income. I train, I stay in camp, and I stay in shape and stay sparring to stay ready because I don't have a 9 to 5. I do it on my own leisure. The mentality of the work is just training to maintain because I'm not training with a goal when I don't have anything lined up. But shit, him saying my name is the biggest goal. Everybody is vying for this fight. You see everybody saying, "I want the fight! Me-me-me-me!" It's kind of funny, I've been seeing everybody putting their bid in, but at the end of the day, he's going to pick who he wanna pick. I do have to shout out to the Bay Area because they have been going hard for me like they always do in whatever they do. They have been pushing hard for me with the Mayweather-Mayfield; it just wouldn't be in May, but September is alright with me. The same hard line that they pushed with the "Run Danny Run" campaign. We see what he doing. He still running. He's fighting Malignaggi, come on. Everybody know, even the haters know, Mayfield would have made a way better fight. Even the people that don't like me for whatever reason, which I don't understand because I've never been whooped, beat up, battered or bruised. I lost those 2 little fights, but check the fights out. You would be like, actually, you could have an argument that Mayfield won. But I'm moving forward and looking forward to being ready for September! Let's do it, May vs. May in September!

PC: Thanks for the time. I'll let you get your run in. Is there anything else you want to add before I let you go?

KM: I'm looking forward to being a household name soon, one way or another. Like I said, I do have multiple sources of income. Maybe in the boxing world; maybe in the app world. On the app side, check out NuttySnap. It's a safety app and it might save your life one day, so check it out. They have some cold pieces on there. So check out my NuttySnap app. I also got these kids skidding at night time. It attaches to any shoe and it makes sparks come from them at night. It's cold and it's dope. The sparks don't burn skin nor does they damage the shoes or burn clothing. It's called skidd plate and it's fresh, so check that out as well. Like I said, I'm going to be a household name, but I want to make it happen in boxing. And I can't leave out the beauty salon. It's called "Essential Beauty Salon", and thanks again for the Bay Area for showing support!
