CORTNEY CASEY: "I'M NOT SOMEONE WHO LOOKS FOR EASY FIGHTS"

By Percy Crawford | July 27, 2015
CORTNEY CASEY:

"When the UFC calls, you take it. I'm not someone who looks for easy fights. I just want to fight...Only time can tell what is in store for my future, but I'm happy with everything thus far...I'm always looking to put on a good show for the fans," stated UFC strawweight Cortney Casey, who talked about her loss to Joanne Calderwood, her future plans, and more. Check it out!

PC: You showed tremendous heart in your unanimous decision loss to Joanne Calderwood. I know you didn't show up for a moral victory, but given the circumstances, was that a little consolation knowing the fight was exciting?

CC: It's always good to know that your fight is exciting. I think that's what all fighters strive for obviously, a win, but an exciting fight as well.

PC: You were on a 3-fight winning streak and you accepted this fight on short notice. Any regrets, or if you had to do it over again, would you change anything?

CC: No, I wouldn't change anything. When the UFC calls, you take it. I'm not someone who looks for easy fights. I just want to fight.

PC: To make your UFC debut on a couple of weeks notice, what was your preparation like?

CC: You just have to be mentally tough more than anything. You kinda have to know that your training is done with that short notice and it's just cutting the weight and getting your mind right.

PC: Did you have any anxiety at all leading up to the event or did you try to treat this like any other fight in your mind?

CC: Yeah, just treat it like any other fight. You have to stay as calm as possible in situations like that.

PC: One plus is that you were very familiar with Calderwood. That being said, was there anything that she did during the course of the fight that took you by surprise or was she pretty much what you expected?

CC: Nothing surprising. We knew we were going to get the best Jojo.

PC: You threw a nice combination early in the 1st round and had her hurt. It seems to me that you didn't want to open up too much. I don't know if that was because you knew she was durable or taking the fight on short notice, you wanted to pace yourself. What are your thoughts on that particular moment of the fight?

CC: Honestly, I dont know what was going on. I just remember my coach saying sit on your punches and after that, the flurry was over.

PC: Once the grappling started, it really looks like it zapped your energy, and obviously the kick to the midsection in the 3rd didn't help. At any point, do you feel you were close to giving in and fighting another day or was that not an option?

CC: It's never an option.

PC: What were you told by the UFC after the fight? Are they looking to bring you back on? I would love to watch you fight with a full training camp and being more active as a fighter.

CC: Only time can tell what is in store for my future, but I'm happy with everything thus far.

PC: What can we expect to see every time we tune in to watch a Cortney Casey fight?

CC: Like I said before, I'm always looking to put on a good show for the fans.

PC: I wish you the best of luck and I hope to see you in the Octagon again very soon. Thanks for your time. Is there anything you want to say before I let you go; anyone you want to thank?

CC: I'd like to thank all my family and friends for the support, TNT managment, my sponsor, and of course my coaches and training partners over at the NEST.
