TYRONE BRUNSON:

"I want to show everybody that I can compete with the elite and all of the top guys in the 154-pound division....I know deep down I can compete with any one of them dudes. So this year, I'm trying to fight for a regional title; at least that's the short term goal. The long term is to get the world title. That's the main goal," stated jr. middleweight contender Tyrone Brunson, who talked about his latest win, his future plans, and much more. Check it out!

PC: Congratulations on your recent win over Brandon Quarles. How do you feel about the performance?

TB: I feel great. I would rate it like a C+. I could have done more, but I did great. My performance was excellent, but I could have done more. That guy came to fight, man. He made me go in my bag of tricks.

PC: He's never been an opponent. He has a solid record and he always come to fight. Did you expect that going in or did he exceed your expectations?

TB: Not really because I really watched him and I sparred with this guy that fights just like this dude. he throws that overhand right like him; he's wild and keeps coming. The only thing as far as in the fight is the guy I was sparring could punch way harder than he punched me. So I was kind of prepared for anything he brought to the table. But I take my hat off to him. He's going to upset a lot of people who sleep on him and I told him that.

PC: You said it was a great fight and you fought an excellent fight, but you graded it out a C+. Why such a low grade?

TB: Because I know what I bring to the table and I know I could have done way more than I done. I did a lot and it was crazy, but I could have done a lot better. I'm my own worst critic anyway though, so...

PC: I feel you. It had to be a nice feeling just to be back in there, and you were in with a quality opponent.

TB: It felt great being home with the crowd and, like you said, being in there against a quality opponent. And it felt even better to be in there with an opponent who is going to bring the best out of me. I'm the type of fighter that if the quality of my opponent is good, I'm going to fight good; if it's just okay, I'm going to fight okay. It's like the draw when I fought Tito Garcia. That wasn't my best performance because he was fighting scared and I fought down to his level.

PC: Split decision win. When they started to read the scorecards, were you nervous that they may have saw it in his favor?

TB: Nah! I was pretty sure that I secured the win because I was stealing the rounds. I was hitting him with 3, 4, 5-punch combinations and the judges were looking for that. Towards the end of the rounds, I was hitting him with 3, 4, 5-punch combinations and I was hitting him with the cleaner and more harder punches throughout the whole fight, so I kind of knew I had it. I wasn't worried.

PC: You told me in the past that you wanted to showcase your boxing more and get away from just the big puncher title. Do you feel like you were able to do that in this particular fight?

TB: Everybody that seen the fight said I put on a hell of a performance. They were calling me and texting my phone and the crowd was into it. It was great, man. I feel great about the performance. At first I wanted to just stand there and slug with him, but my trainer, Fred Jenkins and Andre Thompson, said just box this dude. I was kind of fighting his fight. So I boxed him real good, used combinations and my hand speed, and the punching power is always there. It was there.

PC: Was being at home add pressure to you or did you use it as fuel throughout the course of the fight?

TB: Nah! My whole mindset coming into this fight was win. Whether I knocked him out or I get the decision, just win.

PC: Do you have a timetable in your mind of when you want to return to the ring, because obviously you want to keep the ball rolling?

TB: I haven't talked to my promoters yet, but I should be talking to Marshall Kauffman in the next few weeks and we should have a date. I'm trying to look for at least June.

PC: Will you take a little bit of time away from the gym or you going to get right back in there?

TB: No, no, I'm right back in there. For this camp, I was up at 4:00-4:30 every morning with Jesse Hart and then we were going to the gym.

PC: What are your goals for the rest of the year?

TB: This year, I want to show everybody that I can compete with the elite and all of the top guys in the 154-pound division. They may not believe it, but I believe it, my promoter believes it, and my family and friends that know me believes it. I know deep down I can compete with any one of them dudes. So this year, I'm trying to fight for a regional title; at least that's the short term goal. The long term is to get the world title. That's the main goal.

PC: Are there any names in particular you are looking to match up against?

TB: My promoter knows whoever he put in front of me, I'll fight. I don't say, "Why I gotta fight this guy" or "the money wrong." I just say, "Okay," and train. That's one thing my promoter likes about me. I'm quite sure he knows my vision and the route I'm trying to go and he's going to get me there.

PC: Congrats again on the win, keep me posted on your next move, and we will talk soon. Is there anything else before I let you go?

TB: Follow me on Instagram @tyrone_tnt_215 and on Facebook, Ty Brunson, and I want to thank all of my fans. I want to thank you and my whole team for rocking with me.
