MARK JOHNSON EXPLAINS WHY RIVALRY BETWEEN GERVONTA DAVIS AND TEVIN FARMER IS

"It's crazy because I was right there front and center when Tank and Tevin Farmer had their run-in with each other. It was kind of odd because I'm looking at two guys at 126-130, and you never really even had one, but now you have two guys on the east coast that's in the same weight class that's becoming a rivalry. You're talking about Baltimore and Philadelphia, which is 2 hours away from each other either way. I think it's a great fight," stated Hall of Famer Mark "Too Sharp" Johnson, who shared his thoughts on a potential future showdown between super featherweight champion Gervonta Davis and contender Tevin Farmer. Check out what else he had to say!

MARK JOHNSON ON RIVALRY BETWEEN GERVONTA DAVIS AND TEVIN FARMER:

I think it's a fight that should be made. I think right now, my honest opinion, I like Gervonta Davis, I've watched him for a long time, but right now, the thing is about business and about money; it's not about fighting the guy that talked trash to you. Tevin Farmer said if he was with Al Haymon, he would've been had the title. Well, that's a decision that he made. So right now, if this fight ain't really calling for a lot of money, why should it happen? I think Tank has a little more seasoning to get. I think Floyd is moving him the right way. I think if he stays under the tutelage of Floyd and The Money Team and lets them move him correctly and the right way, I think he will be very successful. But I think if he gets to calling out guys who people just want to see him fight, like Tevin Farmer or Vasyl LomachenkoÂ…hey, there are a lot of good fights he can make out here on the east coast. Gary Russell against Gervonta Davis would be big right here at the MGM here. You don't have to go to Philadelphia. All three of those guys could do a round robin: Gary Russell, Tank and Tevin Farmer. Y'all could make a little tournament like they did with the middleweights: Bernard Hopkins, William Joppy, Keith Holmes and Felix Trinidad. You had two guys from this area, Joppy and Holmes. Bernard ended up winning it all.

There are a lot of good fights out there to be made and I can see watching Tevin how serious he takes the game now. Early in his career, I think he had mismanagement or no management and he took fights he shouldn't have taken and that's where the 4 losses come from. That's the difference in what I tell people in Tank having a promoter and a manager. With a promoter and a manager, if Tevin Farmer would have had a good promoter and manager, those 4 losses may not be there. But he picked up his boot strap, he's back working, he's back right there and should be in the top 10 now and he's a force to be reckoned with. And now he has that experience and he feels like at this point, Tank can't beat him. He looks at Tank like a little kid. And Tank's saying, "When you get a belt, call me. You got 4 losses." I like to see both of them. But I would like to see Tank sit back and take his time, pick the right fights, stack his money up, and then if those fights come around and it's for some money, then you can take them. Lou DiBella is working with Tevin Farmer. Lou DiBella is also working with Al Haymon, so hey, they can make it happen. I would love to see it. That's a fight I would love to commentate.

I know a lot of people compare Tevin Farmer's style to my style and I do see that. I really started watching him maybe a year ago. I watched him fight the big guy, Ivan Redkach, and I said, "Wow, his defense is good, his boxing is good, and he is in and out." He does everything that you're supposed to do as a southpaw. And I said, "Watch out, he got a little of Too Sharp in him," then I said, "Watch out, he got a lot of Too Sharp in him." He got just a little bit of Pernell Whitaker in him, but he got a lot of Too Sharp in him. It was crazy because I've been watching him and we were just introducing ourselves to each other and then him and Tank went at it and I was just like, "Wow!"
