DAVID BENAVIDEZ TALKS KNOCKOUT OF PORKY MEDINA AND RESPONDS TO JESSE HART:

"I feel like now people are giving me the credit I deserve and now the eyes are a little bit open and people are paying attention to my fights and they will be watching David Benavidez. I still have a lot more great fights to give and I still have a lot of things to show people that people haven't really seen in my arsenal. I still want to add some things, of course, and get better and give people even greater fights," stated super middleweight contender David Benavidez, who talked about his impressive knockout of Porky Medina, his future plans, and much more. Check it out!

PC: Congratulations on the spectacular knockout of "Porky" Medina.

DB: Thank you, brother.

PC: How did you feel during the course of the fight leading up to the knockout?

DB: You know, everything was as I expected it to be. I told everybody I was going to knock this dude out coming into the fight. A lot of people didn't believe me, but I had belief in my abilities and my power and I knew what I was capable of. I know "Porky" Medina was a tough fighter, so I gave him all of the respect he deserved, but I just wanted to go in there and make a statement for this fight and that's exactly what I did.

PC: When you are facing a guy that's known for being durable, what made you so confident that you could stop him?

DB: I watched him a lot and there were a lot of openings in his game and a lot of people that fought him, they kind of respected him too much. They would land a couple of shots and then back up. He would always be the one setting the pace pushing forward. So I watched the Badou Jack fight and he got knocked out going backwards. So I talked to my team and we figured he didn't know how to fight going back. So we knew if we pushed him back, because I can fight going backwards or moving forward, either way, but I knew he didn't know how to fight going back. So that's what we did. We pushed and pushed him back all night and then we ended up getting that KO.

PC: At this level, you rarely see a fighter open up with 6-7 punch combinations. That had to be a 7-punch combo that you finished him with.

DB: I've always had that speed, but I've never really had an opponent that could take so much punishment like that. "Porky" took a hell of a punch. I never had someone that gave me the opportunity to hit them with 6 or 7 shots. I always knew I could hit somebody with that speed, but I had to really put everything together on Saturday night, speed and power. I broke him down to the body leading up to the knockout. I hit him with some good body shots. The body shots were hurting him, so I knew that I could go upstairs because he would be more focused on blocking the body. I dropped him in the previous round with a body shot, so I was like, "Okay." I started with the body shots and then the first two punches, he didn't try to block; he just moved his head to the side and it was the opportunity I had been waiting for and I just let it go. It was like 7 punches and it got the job done.

PC: When he went down, knowing how tough and durable he is, did you feel like you had to continue fighting or did you sense that was the end?

DB: No, I saw it in his eyes. I actually thought they were gonna stop it the round before because when he was on the stool, I was watching him because I hit him with them body shots and he didn't want to come out. He's a warrior, man, so he had to push himself to come out, but I know he didn't want anymore. As soon as I dropped him that last time, I knew that he was done and wasn't going to get back up. I really wanted to knock him out. We wanted to make a statement and that's exactly what we did. I didn't want to run from nobody because that's not what I'm about. I wanted to go in there and go toe-to-toe and that's exactly what we did.

PC: There was so much boxing on that night across the board. Your knockout was all over the place that night and this week. That has to be a great feeling knowing that even with all of the boxing going on, your knockout was highly publicized.

DB: Yeah, it was great for me, man. I was honored that my knockout was talked about the most out of all of the great fighters they had going that night. Saturday night was a great night of boxing. There was so many great fights and I ended up being at the top. It was an amazing feeling for me. I feel like now people are giving me the credit I deserve and now the eyes are a little bit open and people are paying attention to my fights and they will be watching David Benavidez. I still have a lot more great fights to give and I still have a lot of things to show people that people haven't really seen in my arsenal. I still want to add some things, of course, and get better and give people even greater fights. That's the one thing that I love about it is giving people great fights and having them talk about the fights even after. It's a great feeling as well. The fans in Texas were great. The people out there showed me so much love and it was an amazing feeling.

PC: When you score a knockout like that and have a great performance in general, your name starts to be attached to other fighters' names. A guy that took exception to that was Jesse Hart and he just called me to voice his displeasure. He feels like you are a hype job right now and warned that they better not feed you to the wolf, and he is that wolf. What are your thoughts on Hart and a potential fight with him?

DB: I think Jesse Hart is a great fighter and I would love to fight great fighters, but I'm gonna tell you one thing, he's not the wolf. I'm the wolf and I'll take him out any day.

PC: I like to see young guys get these rivalries going. And you're aligning yourself for a possible shot at Callum Smith and he has some business on the way first in September, but it definitely seems like you are on the hunt for a world title shot here soon.

DB: Yeah, that's definitely the plan. We worked so hard to get to where we're at. I'm going to go back to the gym and work even harder and get better and be ready for when it's time to fight for a championship.

PC: That was a great performance. You are on a 10-fight knockout streak and that is very impressive. Congratulations again and I look forward to speaking to you in the future. Is there anything else you would like to add?

DB: I just want to thank you guys for interviewing me. It really means a lot to me. I want to thank the fans for following me. Keep an eye out for me, man, because I'm going to be giving you guys quality fights.
