Moments ago at the Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale, New York, former middleweight champion Daniel Jacobs cruised to an uneventful unanimous decision victory over previously undefeated contender Luis Arias. Contrary to the big talk of going to war prior to the fight, Arias seemed content to survive the full 12 rounds with Jacobs, who was walking him down from the opening bell. Arias looked confused at times as Jacobs made it clear early that not only is he the better technician, but he's also the bigger puncher.
Switching back-and-forth between orthodox and southpaw at times, Jacobs was landing the more telling shots during the limited exchanges throughout the fight. Because Arias was reluctant to let his hands go, it made it easy for Jacobs to take the fight to him, roughing him up and putting round after round into the bank. In the end, the judges scored the bout 118-109, 120-107, and 119-108, all in favor of Jacobs.
Also on the card, heavyweight contender Jarrell Miller lumbered his way to a 9th round TKO victory over Mariusz Wach. Although Wach found some success from the outside, Miller simply walked through his punches to do his best work on the inside. After Wach appeared to injure his right hand midway through the fight, Miller found it easier to land his combinations. Once it was clear that Wach had very little to offer in return, the referee called a halt to the fight.
