Moments ago at the Place Bell in Quebec, Canada, WBO middleweight champion Billy Joe Saunders made an impressive defense of his title, defeating former world champion David Lemieux via unanimous decision. Lemieux was never even in the fight as Saunders used his superior boxing skills to bust him up from the outside. Keeping Lemieux at bay with a powerful jab and excellent footwork, it didn't take long for Saunders get comfortable and cocky as he started showboating as early as the second round.
By the middle rounds, Saunders began sitting down on his punches, snapping the head back of Lemieux on several occasions. As the rounds continued, Lemieux had no answers for Saunders, who continued to land powerful shots while showing off some slick defensive skills. Looking sluggish and confused, Lemieux continued to eat punches from Saunders, who had the face of the challenger bloodied and busted up. A big uppercut in the 10th round appeared to shake Lemieux up and between rounds had his corner telling him, "Don't quit! Don't quit!" It was more of the same in the championship rounds as Saunders continued to tee off on Lemieux in what appeated to be in obvious shutout performance. In the end, the judges scored the bout 120-108, 117-111, and 118-110, all in favor of Saunders.
