According to reports out of Mexico, on Friday the 13th, Canelo Alvarez was admitted very early to a private hospital in the Andares area for arthroscopic knee surgery. Although Canelo's promoter, Golden Boy Promotions, confirmed reports that he underwent surgery on Friday, they claimed it was simply cosmetic and not serious.
"Yes, they operated on Canelo Alvarez, but it was cosmetic, there are no more details," a spokesman for Golden Boy told ESPN Deportes. Canelo, however, has now released a statement disputing his promoter's claim and confirming that he did indeed have knee surgery.
In a newly released picture and video posted to his Instagram count, Canelo can be seen in a hospital bed with his knee clearly being worked on. The caption translates as follows, "I share with you that today I had to undergo an arthroscopy surgery to repair the internal femoral cartilage and eliminate a pathological fold of my right knee. I dismiss the erroneous information published by Golden Boy President Eric Gomez. Thanks for worrying !! And in 3 to 4 weeks I'll be like new."
