Moments ago at Madison Square Garden in New York, New York, newly-crowned lightweight champion Vasiliy Lomachenko made boxing history, defeating former champion Jorge Linares via 10th round knockout to become the fastest to win a world title in 3 different weight classes. It looked like Lomachenko was on his way to another dominant victory, but Linares dramatically turned things around in the 6th round when he landed an overhand right that floored Vasiliy with just a few seconds left in the round.
As the fight continued, the scorecards started getting closer. Although Linares had his moments, Lomachenko continued to use angles to pick him apart. In the 10th round, Lomachenko landed a beautiful combination that ended with a left hook to the kidney, dropping Linares for the count. Although Linares made back to his feet, it was clear that he was uable to continue due to the pain from the body shot, prompting the referee to call a halt to the fight.
