JESSE HART SAYS GOLOVKIN MAY WANT TO CONSIDER HANGING UP THE GLOVES; ADVISES HIM TO STAY AWAY FROM 168

"I believe Triple G’s age caught up to him. That’s not to take any credit away from Canelo’s victory. I just think age caught up to him, and that being said, I think a guy knows when to hang it up...I think it’s time for him to consider walking away because if he moves up, considering how short he is and how guys up here would be able to absorb his punches, the bigger man is able to take that kind of power. Those guys that he’s been knocking out and destroying at 60, he won’t be able to do that at 68," stated super middleweight contender Jesse Hart, who shared his thoughts on Canelo's victory over Golovkin. Check it out!

PC: What are your thoughts on the fight itself and the outcome of the Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin fight?

JH: I believe it was good boxing. I believe it upheld the sport. I believe that Canelo showed greatness throughout all of the turmoil that his life was in; meaning the positive tests, the year-long layoff, knee surgery, not having a tune-up. You can’t really say what happened with the positive tests because, as you see, he prevailed without it. I believe Triple G’s age caught up to him. That’s not to take any credit away from Canelo’s victory. I just think age caught up to him, and that being said, I think a guy knows when to hang it up. He wasn’t able to keep up with the hand speed of Canelo and a lot of different things happened in there. He’s gotta look at himself in the mirror and rectify that. The only way to rectify it, in my opinion, is to go on record and admit that you lost fair and square, but you don’t keep saying that you got robbed because it looks bad. It looks bad. He hit him with cleaner punches and more punches. The only punch that Triple G landed more consistently than Canelo was the jab. That’s what I saw in the fight. I mean, the jab was working for him, but you need more than just the jab. You gotta do something off of it and he didn’t capitalize off of it, so I think Canelo was the more exciting fighter. He came to fight.

PC: You just mentioned that Triple G should know when to hang them up. I also saw where someone said that maybe a trip up to super middleweight could be beneficial to him. How does Triple G fair at 168 pounds in your opinion?

JH: I think it’s time for him to consider walking away because if he moves up, considering how short he is and how guys up here would be able to absorb his punches, the bigger man is able to take that kind of power. Those guys that he’s been knocking out and destroying at 60, he won’t be able to do that at 68. The Danny Jacobs fight showed me that. Jacobs was able to absorb the power because he had the weight on him. You can’t really access the fight with all of those other guys before and think he would be able to do that at super middleweight. When a guy has weight on him, they can absorb his shots and I think that he could get hurt up here at 68 against the top opposition.

PC: Going back a couple of weeks, what did you think of Garcia-Porter?

JH: Ah man, I think that was a helluva fight. People will say I’m being bias, but I still think Danny landed the cleaner shots. Porter smothered a lot of his work, so we wasn’t able to see it cleanly. I believe Danny just didn’t do enough at times and I believe the fight was a draw. I just think he didn’t do enough, but he landed the cleaner and harder punches. I still think he still has a lot going for himself at 147 pounds. To me, it’s gotta be more about Danny and Spence than Porter and Spence. I think that should happen next. Porter, I really didn’t see his work with Danny. People can say I’m bias because I’m from Philadelphia, but I really didn’t see the work. I didn’t see any clean work. I saw him all over the ring and all over the place. First, he was boxing, then he was coming to Danny; we didn’t know his game. He was all over. How did you win a unanimous decision when you were all over the place? You running, then you not running, then you boxing, then you coming forward and then you hopping and bouncing in front of him. Then, once you do get inside, your shots is so short, we can’t see the work. I saw Danny land the left hook, I saw Danny land the uppercut, I saw Danny land the more cleaner shots.

PC: There are talks of Mayweather-Pacquiao II in play. Is that a fight you are interested in seeing again?

JH: What would we watch that for again? I mean, the first fight, we thought it was going to be a slobber knocker; we thought we were going to get blood, sweat and tears and we didn’t get none of that. Why do that? Why take that gamble?
