PC: Congratulations on your third consecutive knockout win last month. How did you feel about your performance?
RR: Honestly, it made me depressed.
PC: Why? You wanted to get rounds in?
RR: Nah, fuck the rounds. The rounds don’t mean shit. Rounds don’t mean shit. Mike Tyson didn’t fucking have rounds and look at him. Trinidad didn’t have rounds. Edwin Valero didn’t have rounds. He was killing everybody. I was depressed because I felt...if you ask anyone, after my fight, I was down. Most people, after they get a victory, they celebrate or go to clubs, do all of this shit, and I’m just sitting there by myself pissed off. I don’t know, maybe I just felt like it was an insult to my talent. I believe I’m world-class level already. To me, I want to knock out somebody with a big name.
PC: I feel where you’re coming from, but this guy was experienced and had a winning record. That’s no consolation to you?
RR: No! I expected him to come in and get knocked out. Two days before the fight, I was telling everybody that would listen how I was going to knock him out; I was going to knock him out in the first round and that I was going to hit him with a right hand. I told everybody. I saw it. I knew I saw it.
PC: I have to bring up Ryan Garcia because your promoter, Floyd Mayweather, said if Ryan Garcia could defeat you, not only would he give him $200,000 cash, but he would also give him a fight with Gervonta Davis. Obviously, Floyd is confident that he wouldn’t get past you.
RR: Floyd knows he won’t get past me. Ryan knows he won’t get past me. De La Hoya knows he won’t get past me. If I’m such an easy fight...I’m a 6-round fighter in De La Hoya’s opinion. If I’m a 6-rounder fighter, why not get Ryan easy money against me and then a guaranteed title shot? Right? It would make sense, ya know. They know I would fuck him up and De La Hoya can’t afford to lose to Floyd again. Floyd beat the shit out of De La Hoya, Floyd beat the shit out of Canelo, and now I’m going to beat the shit out of Ryan.
PC: Why are you so confident that you can defeat someone who has so much more experience than you? He’s sitting at 18 fights and you have 8.
RR: He doesn’t have 10 more fights than me, he has 5 more fights than me because we’re not counting his first five fights in Mexico. I can beat anybody. I think I can beat anybody and Ryan is no exception. I came into this sport 6 years ago. I surpassed everybody’s expectations of me. When I turned pro 2 years ago, there wasn’t high expectations for me. There wasn’t. And I surpassed everybody; Olympians and everybody.
PC: When you confronted Ryan at the fights and you guys were going back and forth, what did you sense from him body language wise?
RR: He’s scared of me. He thinks I’m going to come up and swing at him. He knows he can’t make eye contact with me. I ran into his mom, brother, and his dad, I think it was like 2 days after our confrontation, and they couldn’t make eye contact with me. I got their entire family shook. They can’t make eye contact with me. They’re scared of me. They know I’m the truth. When I sparred Ryan, I was out of shape. I hadn’t sparred in 2 months. They know I would kill him with them little gloves. There is no way he could survive with me in those little gloves. Plus, I get ten times better and sharper when I’m at my fight weight.
PC: You had 4 fights in 2018 and you already have a fight in this year. you’re also due up again in a couple of weeks, right?
RR: I want to fight every other month. Al, Luis, Leonard, and Floyd know what they are doing with me, so I’m just going to go with what they have to say, ya know. They know what they are doing. Floyd wants the fight with me and Ryan, Leonard wants the fight with me and Ryan, and both of my managers want the fight with me and Ryan, so you know what, I want it too. The only people we are waiting for is Ryan and De La Hoya. I’m fighting on the Danny Garcia vs. Adrian Granados card in L.A. on April 20th. I’m getting right back in there; quick fight, quick money. I sparred for the first time today. First day back, I wasn’t 100% yet, but the next few days will be a lot better.
PC: What did you think of his win over Jose Lopez the other night?
RR: I didn’t watch it. I don’t have that DAZN bullshit. I think that shit is bad for boxing. It cuts off the fan base completely. It’s not good for prospects. Something don’t add up. I heard it went up in price and all that shit too. It just doesn’t add up. Nobody is paying $20-$30 bucks a month to watch boxing. It’s not even a boxing event every month on there. That’s worse than PPV and it’s not even PPV-caliber fights. And I guarantee you they will have price increases for Canelo’s fights too. Watch! It’s bad for boxing. The numbers don’t add up.
