Earlier today, former welterweight champion Andre Berto accused newly-crowned champion Victor Ortiz of using performance-enhancing drugs leading up to their recent showdown this past April. "There is a reason why Ortiz had so much energy, a reason he could take my heavy shots and keep ticking," Berto would post on his official Twitter account. Evidently, Berto has heard from members of Ortiz's camp and knows exactly what type of performance-enhancing drugs he was taking. "There is a reason why he came into the ring 165 pounds. I know people close to him and his camp and I know exactly we he was taking," he added.
The April 16 bout marked Ortiz's debut as a welterweight, and having moved up seven pounds north from 140-pound division, the former jr. welterweight contender appeared to look noticeably more muscular than in previous bouts. In the end, after a total of four knockdowns between the two fighters, Ortiz would hand Berto the first loss of his career. While many may look at Berto's comments as a case of sour grapes, undefeated super middleweight Anthony Dirrell, the brother of Andre Dirrell, actually chimed in on Twitter and co-signed Berto's accusations, replying, "I know what he was taking too."
Check out exactly what Berto and Dirrell posted on their official Twitter accounts:
@AndreBerto: Yo this is the main question I get from fans and boxing people. Did they drug test Ortiz?
