"I'm facing one of the best fighters of all time and that was a dream of mine as a little kid...At the end of the day, man, I don't really have any bad things to say about Mayweather. He's the pound-for-pound champion of the world recognized by one and all; I don't care who has got anything negative to say. The only bad thing is now I'm champion of the world; I'm newly crowned and I'm not giving that up," stated WBC welterweight champion Victor Ortiz, who moments ago spoke to the media and fans in attendance at the Hudson Theater in New York City for the press conference to officially announce the upcoming September 17th Mayweather vs. Ortiz welterweight championship showdown. You don't want to miss highlights of what else Ortiz had to say about Mayweather, his critics, and much more.
On the fight and his critics...
I realize there's a lot of, like, love/hate type stuff going on. That's awesome. That's part of the game, but here's the thing though. Look, tell me one thing I haven't already heard, man. My mom and dad, they left me. People who love me left, okay? I've been through a bunch of bull, man, are you kidding me? For somebody to sit there and really, really try and tell me how I'm going to live my life, or how to dictate how I'm going to live my life, that to me is a laugh, because you know what? Nowadays, I'm facing one of the best fighters of all time and that was a dream of mine as a little kid.
I'm supposed to be a piece of nothing; I'm not supposed to be here according to statistics.
At the end of the day, man, I don't really have any bad things to say about Mayweather. He's the pound-for-pound champion of the world recognized by one and all; I don't care who has got anything negative to say. The only bad thing is now I'm champion of the world; I'm newly crowned and I'm not giving that up, man, just like he did not give it up for fucking ten years or a decade, I'm not giving mine up.
I'm just tired of like, "Oh, you can't do this, you can't do that." You know what? Everything is possible, man. Nothing's impossible. I mean, come on, if Armstrong went to the moon, why can't I hold on to my title for the next 15 years? Bernard Hopkins is doing it.
Matter of fact, I hope I don't offend anyone, but July 7th, 1985, okay, there's going to be a repitition on September 17th. It was Mr. Roger Mayweather versus Julio Cesar Chavez.
