In a recent conversation with world-class trainer Floyd Mayweather Sr., FightHype learned that he's in the process of opening up his own gym in Las Vegas, Nevada, where he currently resides. Previously training out of the famous Johnny Tocco's Gym, Sr. felt that it was time for him to create his own facility where he could better impart his knowledge as a boxing trainer. "I just think it's time. I got a few guys that are going to help me run it, but I will do most of the training; just some guys to make sure things are running smoothly," he informed us.
As of now, there is no timetable set on the development of the gym, but Sr. insists that plans are already in motion and the gym is definitely on the way. During a verbal dispute with his son, it was pointed out that Mayweather Sr. had no gym to call his own and train out of. Regardless if that was the motivating factor behind Sr.'s decision to open his own gym, I personally feel it's a move that's long overdue as a number of boxers, kickboxers, and mixed martial artists have all reached out to him lately in hopes of honing their skills. As such, Mayweather Sr. says the gym will welcome anyone and everyone from all disciplines who are looking to gain knowledge from one of the world's best trainers.
