Moments ago, WBA jr. middleweight champion Miguel Cotto exacted revenge against the man who handed him his first loss, defeating Antonio Margarito via 10th round TKO at the Madison Square Garden in New York City, New York. Using his superior hand speed and technical skills, Cotto kept the fight at a distance, landing jabs and right hands that picked Margarito apart all night. Although Margarito was game, pressing the action and constantly coming forward despite a closed eye, he was just too slow and unable to catch Cotto, and ultimately, the doctor thought the damage to the eye was just too much for the fight to continue.
