You gonna see the difference, man...I think that Cotto is a good fighter. I'll be honest man, I would think that Cotto will be a better fight for Floyd than Pacquiao if Pacquiao not on anything. Cotto never lays down and that's what makes him good," stated world-class trainer Floyd Mayweather Sr., who shared his thoughts on a number of big fights coming up, including Mayweather vs. Cotto, Pacquiao vs. Bradley, Peterson vs. Khan II, and much more. PC: How have you been Big Floyd?
FM: Everything is going real good, man. I can't complain at all. I feel real good physically and I'm still sharp, so everything is good.
PC: Yeah, Lydell [Rhodes] put up a video of you doing some mitt work with him. It was real sharp. You still have a good eye and speed for that stuff.
FM: Oh yeah. I don't think I will ever lose that. No matter how fast or how slow a fighter is, I'm gonna catch them with those mitts. It is what it is with tha, man. I ain't gonna slow down in that department.
PC: Your son, Lil Floyd, will be fighting Miguel Cotto in May. What do you think about that fight?
FM: I'm going to be honest with you, man. I think Lil Floyd gonna beat Cotto, but I think Cotto gonna try to put on a pretty decent fight. If Lil Floyd don't knock him out...I'm just saying the whole thing is, if Lil Floyd don't knock him out and Pacquiao knocked him out...I'm just saying; I'm telling you, man. You gonna see the difference, man. If Lil Floyd don't knock him out and Pacquiao knocked him out, what in the hell do that tell you? Come on, man. Lil Floyd punch good enough to get your ass out of there if he hit you right, and somewhere down the line, he gonna hit you right.
PC: Lil Floyd's accuracy is his power really.
FM: Yeah! I think that Cotto is a good fighter. I'll be honest man, I would think that Cotto will be a better fight for Floyd than Pacquiao if Pacquiao not on anything. Cotto never lays down and that's what makes him good.
PC: On the flip side of that, a month later, Pacquiao will be fighting Timothy Bradley. What are your thoughts on that fight?
FM: They saying Bradley got the magic to beat him. I tell you one thing, if he loaded, Bradley ain't gonna do shit but talk. I'm just telling you, if he loaded...I really don't know what he trying to do now. I don't know if he trying to do the right thing now or what.
PC: On the undercard of Mayweather/Cotto, Shane Mosley will be fighting Saul Alvarez. Can Shane pull this off in your opinion?
FM: Oh, he fighting Oscar De La Hoya's fighter on the same card as Lil Floyd fighting Cotto?
PC: Yeah!
FM: Oh, okay. I'm gonna tell you something man, if Shane got anything left, man, he can beat him. If he got anything left man, he can beat him. And if he can't beat him, he might want to quit completely.
PC: Just trying to get your thoughts on some fights before I let you go. Vernon Paris is a guy that you worked with in the past. He's fighting Zab Judah. Can he beat Zab?
FM: One thing about him man, they wanted me to train Judah awhile back and it never happened and I trained Vernon and he knocked out Tim Coleman. Tim Coleman supposed to be coming in this week because he's about to fight Kendall Holt. Did you know that?
PC: Yeah, I believe they are fighting on ESPN.
FM: Oh, okay. Yeah, that's a good fight. The other guy [Vernon Paris] though never paid me. I thought they were coming here. I thought him and his daddy was coming here, but they never paid me. I can promise you his head gonna be as big as a pumpkin whenever I see him. You pretty much gotta get your money up front with, well, not everybody, but pretty much everybody. They got this guy, Stan from Canada. He is a bullshitter too. He called me the other day. The only reason I got with him is because he fought on a card in Chicago and he kept looking at me and I asked him what was up and we ended up getting together. He came over here for a while and he was paying me money, but he was paying me shabby. He couldn't pay my regular fees, you know?
PC: The last fight I will get your thoughts on is the rematch between Lamont Peterson and Amir Khan.
FM: Man, to be honest, Lamont was doing all of the punching in the first fight. Amir Khan wasn't doing that much. I guarantee you if Lamont beat the shit out of him, they may come back my way because they came my way first. Amir Khan came to me before they went to Freddie Roach, but they went over to Freddie Roach and I guess they wanted to be there because of certain situations. Freddie Roach ain't teaching them nothing over there, man. Man listen, I can out-train Freddie Roach with one hand and every year he wins the outstanding coach award. They only doing it because he sick. You don't do that because somebody sick, man. If the man can't do his work, then he needs to get out of it.
PC: Definitely. Have you ever watched Freddie Roach's show on HBO?
FM: Freddie "The Joke Coach" Roach? Nah, I ain't watched that shit. I haven't missed anything. I heard he talks to his assistant pretty bad. But you know, a roach is gonna be a roach and the only way to make them go away is to spray them with Raid and that's what you gotta do.
