"Everything is going good. I can't wait. I'm very excited. I love Memphis and Mississippi; they are both great places and I'm excited to be fighting there...he only thing I know is he been doing this bare knuckle shit, but it don't matter because this ain't bare knuckle and he probably ain't that good at that, you know what I'm saying? I want to blow this motherfucker out of the water, get Lebedev back, the Bithchko Sisters, and then David Haye. Ain't nothing changed...I want everyone to know that the real heavyweight champion of the world is fighting in Memphis on April 7th. Don't be late because the light will be going out," stated future Hall-of-Famer James "Lights Out" Toney, who talked about his upcoming April 7th return to the ring to face Bobby Gunn. Check out what he had to say about the fight and much.
PC: This will be your first time fighting in the South in a while. How do you feel?
JT: Everything is going good. I can't wait. I'm very excited. I love Memphis and Mississippi; they are both great places and I'm excited to be fighting there.
PC: You went down there and did the press conference. How was the reception for you there?
JT: Ah man, the evening was lovely with the exception of him [Bobby Gunn] being a jackass and trying to be cool and be a clown. He got out of line, so I had to straighten him out a little bit. But the event was great. The promoter, Brian Young, is outrageou, man. He's crazy and he really put on a good show.
PC: You have attacked people and verbally assaulted people your entire career at weigh-ins and press conferences. We have been seeing your opponents here lately attempt to do it to you. Do you think they are just trying to beat you to the punch or...
JT: (Cutting in) Everybody knows I have been doing this for twenty something years and I just bring these guys out of character. They can't do what I do. They wanna get me riled up and then when fight night comes, it's like, "Damn, why did I do that?" The difference is I'm not playing. Everybody else is playing, but I'm gonna hurt you regardless. I've been saying it for a long time; you play basketball, you play football, but you don't play fighting. Nothing but boxing, baby.
PC: His last boxing fight was actually a title shot against Adamek. How much do you know about Gunn outside of that fact?
JT: The only thing I know is he been doing this bare knuckle shit, but it don't matter because this ain't bare knuckle and he probably ain't that good at that, you know what I'm saying? I want to blow this motherfucker out of the water, get Lebedev back, the Bithchko Sisters, and then David Haye. Ain't nothing changed.
PC: You said you want to fight Lebedev again, so that doesn't rule out a return back down to cruiserweight then?
JT: I aint got no problem at all fighting at cruiserweight. You will see how I look. I feel good and fresh. I look good. I feel like I'm a model right now.
PC: You recently went and sparred with the Diaz Brothers. I understand they were real supportive when you were in Boston to fight Couture. How was the sparring session and what's your take on the Diaz Brothers?
JT: I love 'em, man. They good people. They are successful and doing well and I wish them the best, but my dog...King Mo. King Mo, that's my dog. I'll do anything in the world for King Mo. I ain't got nothing but love for King Mo. The King lives, baby!
PC: Like you said, it's been a long time since you fought in the South. What can fans expect from you on April 7th?
JT: The real heavyweight champion of the world, bottom line. I want everyone to know that the real heavyweight champion of the world is fighting in Memphis on April 7th. Don't be late because the light will be going out.
PC: I can't wait for the fight. I look forward to finally meeting you in person. Is there anything you want to say in closing? I know you had some sponsorship opportunities.
JT: Yeah man, it's going down in Memphis. I will see you there. Yeah, if anyone wants to get a patch on the shorts, hats or shirts, it's whatever. They can hit you up and we can arrange it.
