Sources close to the situation have informed us that the August 9 jr. welterweight clash between unified WBC & WBA champion Danny Garcia and contender Rod Salka will take place at 142 pounds. The fight was already scheduled to be a non-title fight given that Salka wasn't ranked by either the WBC or the WBA. According to one source, however, Salka's lack of a ranking wasn't the only factor in determining whether or not Garcia's titles would be on the line.
"He can't make the weight! They said Danny couldn't make 140, so they gave Rod a little extra incentive to fight him at a higher weight," one source explained. Though the source wouldn't elaborate, we assume the "extra incentive" came in the form of money. When asked if the weight was discussed prior to the contracts being signed, the source commented, "That's correct. The weight was a part of the negotiations, and if Danny comes in heavier then 142, there will be even more incentive."
