NICK THOMPSON: "IT WOULD BE THE EASIEST MONEY I WOULD MAKE THIS YEAR"

By Percy Crawford | May 23, 2008
NICK THOMPSON:

"I'll make him a deal. He was saying that kung fu artists don't fight in the UFC because their Eagle Claw isn't allowed because he can crush bones with it, or some nonsense like that, so I offered to make a deal. We can start the fight with him having his bone crushing grip locked on," stated Nick Thompson as he talked about his ongoing feud with "Iron Ring" coach Novell G. Bell. Check out what else he had to say about Bell, his June 8th clash with Michael Costa, his thoughts on Penn-Sherk, Carano-Young and much more.

PC: Nick, how's everything going?

NT: Things are going well. I am excited to get back into the ring.

PC: Have you secured an opponent for your June 8th fight at Sengoku 3?

NT: Yes. I will be fighting Chute Box's Michael Costa.

PC: How's training going for that fight?

NT: It has been a hard, but good training camp.

PC: Minnesota Mixed Martial Arts must be pretty busy. Sherk is fighting Saturday, Kaitlin Young on the 31st, you're fighting on June 8th and Lesnar in August. Is that an advantage or disadvantage that all of you guys are training for fights?

NT: It is definitely an advantage. When other fighters are pushing themselves at the same time, it makes it less difficult to push yourself that extra mile.

PC: Could you break down how you think Sherk-Penn will go?

NT: I think Sean needs to avoid any mistakes for the first two rounds. If he doesn't give anything to BJ in the first two rounds, the fight will be all Sean. Alternatively, if you give BJ a chance at the beginning of a fight, he is the best in the world at capitalizing.

PC: How about Young-Carano?

NT: If Gina stands with Kaitlin, it is going to be a rough night for her. An exciting night for fans, but rough for Gina.

PC: I'm sure you're excited to go over to Japan and fight.

NT: I love it over there. The fans really know the sport and really treat us like athletes and I'm even more excited than usual because I feel like I didn't get to showcase my full potential last time so this is a chance to redeem myself.

PC: How are you doing healthwise?

NT: A few bumps and bruises. If you go into a fight feeling 100%, you didn't train hard enough.

PC: This will be your 3rd fight already this year. How many more times can we expect to see you in a fight after Sengoku 3?

NT: I would fight once a month if it were up to me. Maybe I can get in some tournaments and make that happen.

PC: I hear you have a message board war going on with Novell G. Bell from "Iron Ring".

NT: Yeah. There has been some smack talk between the two of us.

PC: How did that start up?

NT: Apparently he posted that MMA wasn't real and that MMA fighters would lose in a street fight to real kung fu practitioners or something like that. I obviously took offense to this and told him to put his money where his mouth was. That has yet to happen (laughing).

PC: Are you really willing to have a no-rules fight with him and put up a little wager?

NT: In a second. It would be the easiest money I would make this year. A hell of a lot easier than fighting Costa.

PC: How does a fight between Bell and Thompson turn out?

NT: Poorly if your last name is Bell. I'll make him a deal. He was saying that kung fu artists don't fight in the UFC because their Eagle Claw isn't allowed because he can crush bones with it, or some nonsense like that, so I offered to make a deal. We can start the fight with him having his bone crushing grip locked on.

PC: What do you think of the show "Iron Ring"?

NT: I haven't watched it. I am all for any show that promotes MMA, though it sounds like they should have chose some people who were a little less cracked.

PC: Good luck in June. 11 wins in a row in MMA is sick. Is there anything you want to say to close out the interview?

NT: I would like to thank my teammates for helping me to prepare. With their help, I am going to be at the best level.
