Cruiserweight prospect Matt Godfrey survived some rocky moments to rally back and stop power-punching Emmanuel Nwodo in four rounds Friday night at the Mohegan Sun Casino in Uncasville, Connecticut.

After some tentative moments in the opening round, Nwodo began to open his arsenal up a bit with the goal to land his powerful right hand. Godfrey's apprehension to trade shots with the tough Nigerian was well-founded after eating a couple of hard rights. Godfrey appeared to taste the canvas after Nwodo landed a chopping right, but referee Dan Schiavone ruled it a slip. Nwodo came out like a man possessed as he landed hard right shots numerous times to the head of Godfrey. Godfrey looked rattled and clearly was uncomfortable with the pressure his adversary was bringing. In the third round, Nwodo seemed to smell blood as he stalked Godfrey relentlessly behind a half-hearted jab that did little to mask his intentions of loading up with the right. While Godfrey surely understood Nwodo's tactics, he did little to persuade his opponent to try a new approach.  As Nwodo stepped up his attack, a straight right dropped Godfrey onto the seat of his pants. Godfrey bounced up immediately, but had to endure the embarrassment of being dropped in front of his legion of New England based fans. As the fourth round began, Godfrey began to show more confidence and began to counter beautifully as Nwodo's lack of polished technique created ample openings for the Rhode Island based fighter.  A jarring straight right thrown by Godfrey buckled the legs of Nwodo. Moments later, another Godfrey right hand would split the nose of Nwodo as blood poured out profusely.  It was clear that Nwodo was hurt as Godfrey continued to rain down right hands until the referee jumped in and stopped the fight.

The official time of the stoppage was 1:57 into the fourth round.  With the win, Godfrey retains his NABF cruiserweight title and improves his record to 17-1, 10 KOs; Nwodo falls to 22-5, 18 KOs in defeat.

In the evening's televised co-main event, Connecticut based featherweight prospect Matt Remillard scored a scintillating fourth round knockout over late substitution Adauto Gonzalez of Austin, Texas.

Though taking the fight on four days notice, Gonzalez utilized speed and savvy ring generalship to enjoy success in the early rounds.  Unfortunately for Gonzalez, his success would be short lived as Remillard began to find his rhythm in the third landing some hard shots to his exposed body. The end came suddenly and brutally in the fourth as Remillard landed a thudding left hook to the body that put Gonzalez down for good.  It was the second knockdown of the round; the first also was a result of a left hook to the body.

The official time of the stoppage was 1:13 into the fourth round.  With the victory Remillard retains an unblemished record of 15-0, 8 KOs; Gonzalez' record falls to 9-5, 3 KOs with the loss.

On the televised undercard, light heavyweight Brian Macy of New Haven, Connecticut placed a picture perfect left hook to the body to stop Shawn Kirk of Lexington, Kentucky in the first round.

The official time of the stoppage was 1:49 into the first round.  With the victory Macy improves his record to 5-0, 2 KOs while Kirk falls to 4-3, 2 KOs in defeat.

Rhode Island based super middleweight Keith Kozlin gutted out a hard fought four round unanimous decision over Borngod Washington.

Kozlin, who was making his pro debut, starts his professional career with a record of 1-0.  Washington remains winless as a pro and sees his record fall to 0-5 in defeat.

The fight card was promoted by CES and televised on ESPN2's Friday Night Fights.
