"Oscar don't want another trainer. He wants to work something out and get Hatton to come down here. Hatton is going to be down here for 5 weeks anyway," stated world-renowned trainer Floyd Mayweather Sr. as he discussed the possibility of training both Oscar De La Hoya and Ricky Hatton at the same time. Check out what else he had to say as he gives us an update on Steve Forbes, who's preparing for his upcoming clash with Andre Berto, and clarifies what went down in Mississippi with Joan Guzman not making weight this past weekend as he states, "He didn't want to tell me nothing. I never even seen Guzman's weight. In this camp, I've never seen his weight onceÂ…It ain't have nothing to do with me man. I just left it alone."
PC: Can you explain Joan Guzman not making weight? A lot of people seem to think it should fall on your shoulders.
FM: It had nothing to do with me because that's not my job when a fighter has a strength and conditioning trainer. My job was to come up with a gameplan and strategy to try and win a title. That motherfucker ain't no fitness trainer, that's all. He's crazy and he tried to lie. The last time we took 45 pounds off of Guzman, me and the guy he had before got it off with no problem. He was a much better fitness trainer than David. David don't know shit about strength training, that's for sure.
PC: Everyone was under the impression that you let your fighter come in out of shape.
FM: No! It had nothing to do with me man. It's David. It's all on David, his strength trainer. Like I said before, I don't think they should even have Â…before this strength trainer shit came into boxing, boxing was good man! I don't even like that stuff man.
PC: Have you spoke to Joan since that night?
FM: No, I haven't spoken to nobody man. I haven't talked to nobody man. I done worked 2 months and ain't got paid and that I got a problem with.
PC: How's Steve Forbes looking for his upcoming fight with Berto in 2 weeks?
FM: Steve is looking good. He is looking good as of now. I have been gone a week. I just got back with Steve. I should've been with Steve, the way this shit went down. Me and that strength coach almost got into a couple of fights man about the same shit; about his weight. I told him over and over man, "Let me check the guy's weight!" He said, "Oh, I got it, I got it, I got it!" He ain't got shit. He ain't done nothing but sit up there lying. He burned the boy with plastic man. He talked about all kinds of stuff he uses for this and that and he ain't done nothing. You don't have to worry about him man. Them guys don't want nothing else to do with him anyway. They already know it ain't me. His people should have told you down there that Floyd been telling them that the whole time. I've been telling him the whole time man to get rid of him. He ain't no good. That's why we almost got in a fight man. He didn't want to tell me nothing. I never even seen Guzman's weight. In this camp, I've never seen his weight once. I'm the head coach man. I'm supposed to know everything that's going on. I called myself trying to keep stuff down man. I didn't want to get nothing started. I ain't want to be fighting over somebody's weight. I ain't want to be fighting because Guzman wasn't on weight; it ain't nothing for me to be fighting about. I'll let him fight with the manager about that. It ain't have nothing to do with me man. I just left it alone.
PC: Guzman has to know a lot of doors closed because of that situation.
FM: Oh yeah, yeah, yeah! It's pretty much over man, to tell you the truth.
PC: I saw where Oscar is willing to share you with Hatton if that could be worked out.
FM: Oscar don't want another trainer. He wants to work something out and get Hatton to come down here. Hatton is going to be down here for 5 weeks anyway so what do you think Percy?
PC: It sounds like the ball is in your court. I would definitely try to get Ricky to come to Big Bear and train with Oscar. If you could lead Oscar to a victory over Manny, Hatton to a victory over Paulie and Forbes over Berto, then you definitely have trainer of the year sewed up.
FM: I'm gonna lock it up. Don't worry about that. We are going to get it done. Ricky Hatton's not going to be as tough as people think to get right. Oscar's saying I should have called, but I ain't never called Oscar in my life for nothing. I hope it all works out. It would benefit both fighters to have them train together and get that work in, but we'll see. I have to get paid man, especially how this shit with Guzman turned out. That was a waste of 8 weeks there. Everybody in Guzman's camp wants to get rid of David and they're going to have to if I'm going to stick around. Percy, I'm about to get in here and get Forbes right my man. You got enough or you need more?
