Sources close to the situation have informed us that former heavyweight champion Chris Byrd is contemplating a return to the ring after suffering a disastrous debut at light heavyweight earlier this year. On May 16th, Byrd, who had shed roughly 35 pounds in seven months to make the jump from heavyweight to light heavyweight, was dropped three times by up-and-coming contender Shaun George before referee Jay Nady called a halt to the action in round 9.
Byrd suffered a dislocated right shoulder during the fight and had to be rushed to the hospital after suffering a bad reaction to painkillers and passing out in the dressing room. He was later revived at the hospital and his wife and manager, Tracy Byrd, would subsequently announce that her husband would no longer be fighting. Since then, Byrd has been rehabbing his shoulder and is now considering a possible return to the ring. It's rumored that Byrd attributes his lackluster performance to the fact that his dramatic weight loss wasn't managed properly. While it's unclear as to whether or not Byrd is considering still fighting at light heavyweight, plans are tentatively in place for him to work with a strength and conditioning coach in the future.
