If you missed the chat session with EliteXC lightweight contender Eddie Alvarez, check out the entire transcript to see what he had to say. "I have all of the confidence in the world that I can finish Nick. I train and prepare to finish my opponents. No, I wont be looking for a ref standup. I will try to finish him ground and pound. I roll with Wilson Reis, a blackbelt, and I do very well against him. I really feel like I can put Nick away," he stated and you don't want to miss what else he had to say about his upcoming clash with Nick Diaz and his thoughts on KJ Noons, BJ Penn, Urijah Faber, Nick Thompson, Kimbo Slice and much more.
TheHype: FightHype would like to welcome Eddie Alvarez to tonight's chat session.
EDDIE ALVAREZ: What's up Fighthype
muaythaifan: Hey Eddie...so tell us about your big fight with Diaz. Do you think he'll be willing to stand with you or do you think he'll be looking to take the fight to the ground?
EDDIE ALVAREZ: I think Diaz won't have any problem standing with me. He stood with some pretty powerful punches like Lawler and Gomi. Do I think it's a good idea? No! He's a good Jiu Jitsu guy and I'm good at exposing peoples weaknesses.
EDDIE ALVAREZ: In the end, I think I'm going to predict where I want the fight to go.
bobalow: Eddie is there any truth to rumors that your eye injury you sustained from your last fight could prevent you from getting medically cleared to fight in the future? If not how is your eye?
EDDIE ALVAREZ: No, not at all. If that's a rumor, it's false. My eye is 100%. The doctors in Japan said it was fine and wanted me to get it checked, but I never did.
EDDIE ALVAREZ: It's fine though.
MikeManiscalco: Eddie, you don't talk crap about your oppenents and you finish your oppenents in the first or second round, and your fights are the most exciting in all of MMA in my opinion. so why isn't your nickname Eddie "The Silent Assasian" Alvarez? haha. Forget "The Iceman" or "The Prodigy" its all about The Silent Assasian!
EDDIE ALVAREZ: That has a little ring to it. I'm not big into nicknames. I don't know why I don't have one. I think it's something that should be given to you and no one on my team has given me one, but if you want to call me the Silent Assassin, I don't have a problem with that.
CroCopolopolis: What do you think of the unwillingness of KJ Noons to take the fight with Diaz?
EDDIE ALVAREZ: My honest opinion, I could see where he's coming from as far as being treated unfair as a champion. But it's his obligation as a champion to do what they tell him. It would be like telling your boss, "Fuck you. I'm going to do what I want today." If he really believes in his heart Diaz is an easy fight for him, then why not fight him again.
EDDIE ALVAREZ: As a fighter, get that easy money, you know?
EDDIE ALVAREZ: My opinion doesn't really matter though. It's 2 sides to every story.
jaz: What did you think of Nick Thompson's loss to Jake Shields? Any chance we'll ever see you get a rematch?
EDDIE ALVAREZ: I kind of seen it coming. If you watch the Parisyan fight, you could see he panics on the ground. He has real good conditioning too, but I think he panics. Instead of playing the game with someone that's tall, I should've took him down. When I saw they were fighting, I knew that was a bad matchup. Nick has a lot going than most of us now. He's a lawyer. Fuck fighting!
EDDIE ALVAREZ: After being choked out like that, stick with law.
jonman12: Will you be fighting in Dream Again?
EDDIE ALVAREZ: Yeah, as long as Dream is going to stick around. It's been rumored that Dream doesn't have the money. I love Dream and fighting over there. I may do something New Years, but it's up to my manager.
dangibbons: If you were getting paid significantly less to fight a guy that you already beat, would you still be eager to face him?
EDDIE ALVAREZ: If you're a fighter and you sign a contract, you fight for what you believe you're worth. You don't sign a contract if you think you're worth more than that. Every fighter is different. If you own a business and a guy produces more than you, then you have to produce more. He's worth more than you. You can't blame the promotion. It's their job to get the cheapest labor. That's how America is run man.
WAR: Eddie, who do you think is gonna win? Randy Couture or Brock Lesnar?? ...War Randy
EDDIE ALVAREZ: Everyone always count Randy out, but my honest opinion, after seeing Brock's last performance, I don't see what Randy could do to beat Brock. Randy's most powerful weapon is his wrestling and I think Brock can negate that. I think Brock will catch him with one of those powerful punches and put him down.
EDDIE ALVAREZ: Brock is bigger, more athletic and faster.
mosleyfan: What do you think of Nick Diaz as a fighter versus Nick Diaz the person (i.e. smoking weed, not big on interviews, etc.)?
EDDIE ALVAREZ: I think he's a true fighter. He likes what he does and dedicates himself to it. You're not going to be able to break him easily. I think he's a lot like me. I don't really know him as a person so I can't say. As far as interviews, I think he overdoes it with wanting people to think he's a tough guy and a fighter. I think he's good for the sport and controversy. I'm glad I'm able to fight him. We're going to put soemthing nice on in November.
EDDIE ALVAREZ: If you're really a fighter at heart, you don't have to keep telling people.
eddiemetal: Can you get a matchup with Faber and how do you think you would matchup? I think you can take him personally. It's cool you bring Phill swagger tp MMA.
EDDIE ALVAREZ: I'm actually pretty cool with Faber. We hung out a lot in Japan. We're in different weight classes so the fight will never, ever happen. He eats like a fucking obese person, but he works his ass off. I wouldn't fight Faber. I like him. He's a good dude.
Furyu: If success in the ring were measured by liters of sweat spilled in training (use tonight as an example for no particular reason) ;-),who do you think would win -you and your training partner(s) or Diaz and his training partners?
EDDIE ALVAREZ: I would 100% have to say me and my training partners. I do 3-a-days and 2-a-days. Every other day I switch. I don't even get Sundays off. I have 3 sets of clothes for the day and they are all soaked. When I hand my wife my clothes and she says, "Ugh," I tell her thats money. I have too much weight to cut to take Sundays off.
EDDIE ALVAREZ: Training and conditioning is one thing you can control. I can't control the outcome of a fight, but I can control my training and that's why I'm always in great shape.
tfk: Eddie, I'm a fan from your RexPlex days. Has there been any discussion of EliteXC featuring you on a CBS card? With your skill and style you could be their breakout star. And second, who makes the best cheesesteak in Philly? My vote is Tony Lukes or Leo's in Folcroft.
EDDIE ALVAREZ: That's wassup. I appreciate that. You must be from New York or North Jersey. Steve Prince's Steak in North Philly, which is like 10 minutes from me, has the best cheesesteak by far. That ain't right that you are talking to me about cheesesteak when I can't go near one. I'm over here eating a sugar free slurpie and you're going to talk to me about cheesesteak.
EDDIE ALVAREZ: Good to hear from someone from my RexPlex days.
chickwood: outside of eliexc who are some guys u would like to fight.... maybe BJ penn??
EDDIE ALVAREZ: Yeah, after a couple more fights and everyhting goes well, I win, I would love to fight BJ in a year or so. I wanted Gomi or BJ after my Dream run. With the right gameplan and the right preperation, I think that fight would be feasable for someone like me. I think BJ is great and I really respect him. I would need a lot of work, but I think in a year, that would be a great fight for me.
muaythaifan: What did you think of Kimbo's loss to Petruzelli?
EDDIE ALVAREZ: I called it. Me and my wife were sitting in the living room and we saw Ken was dropping out and when I found out he was fighting a last minute opponent, I knew he was not experienced enough.
EDDIE ALVAREZ: I told my wife he probably asked for more money and he made a deal with the devil.
EDDIE ALVAREZ: I couldn't have called it better.
bobalow: In almost every last fight of Nick's he usually gets knocked down by a good shot but never fully knocked out, do you think with recent surgery to prevent cuts and proven durability you can be one of the few to finish Nick? Will you be looking for a ref stand up when you do knock him down or are you able to hang on the ground if your put in that position by choice or force?
EDDIE ALVAREZ: I have all of the confidence in the world that I can finish Nick. I train and prepare to finish my opponents. No, I wont be looking for a ref standup. I will try to finish him ground and pound. I roll with Wilson Reis, a blackbelt, and I do very well against him. I really feel like I can put Nick away. I fought Aaron Riley and guys who are known for iron chins and I've put them away. I have all of the confidence in the world that I could do that.
MikeManiscalco: You've have fight of the year canidates with both Hansen and Kawajiri this year, and you and Diaz are two of the best lightweight strkers in MMA, can we expect to see a war like in your last two fights ? And if EliteXC could make it happen after you beat up on Diaz, would you like a rematch with Nick Thompson to avenge that loss?
EDDIE ALVAREZ: I hope we don't see a war like the last 2 fights. That would be great for the fans, but as for my career, I won't last long if i keep having wars like that. It can turn out to be a war like that, but I hope not because my career would be short and sweet. I hope this is a little easier.
EDDIE ALVAREZ: It could be like that though!
shotime: what do you think of Zach Makovsky? How good do you think he will get?
EDDIE ALVAREZ: I tell everyone in our gym and I told Zach before his first pro fight that he will be a champ. His work ethic is above everyone in our gym, except myself of course. He's very strong and has a great work ethic. Anyone in here could take my word for it. He will be champion for sure. He will bounce back from the Wilson loss.
WAR: Who do you think is the best pound for pound fighter is?
EDDIE ALVAREZ: I would say it's a toss up between Anderson Silva and BJ Penn. BJ fights in 2 different weight classes and dominates them and that's a tough thing to do.
TheHype: FightHype would like to thank Eddie Alvarez for taking time out to chat with us tonight.
EDDIE ALVAREZ: Thank you guys for coming out. I appreciate the support. People like you caring about what I'm doing encourages me and it makes me want to get better. Thank you!
