CAIN VELASQUEZ: "I EXPECT A FAST-PACED FIGHT"By Percy Crawford | January 27, 2009
 |
| "I'm back to 100% from my injury and ready to get back into the Octagon...Dennis is a strong guy with an aggressive style. I think he is tough and it will be an exciting fight," stated UFC heavyweight up-and-comer Cain Velasquez as he talked about his upcoming February 7th clash with Dennis Stojnic. Check out what else he had to say about the fight and much more.
PC: How are you doing Cain?
CV: I feel great for my upcoming fight against Dennis Stojnic.
PC: How has this training camp been?
CV: The training has been good. I'm back to 100% from my injury and ready to get back into the Octagon.
PC: You went through a couple of hurdles with the UFC. Is all of that behind you now?
CV: of course! I'm a fighter. I have people to take care of the negotiations and I take care of the fighting. All I have to do is train. My managers have the hard job.
PC: You are one of the hottest prospects out there in the heavyweight division. Do you feel additional pressure by carrying that title?
CV: No pressure. I am confident in my abilities against anyone.
PC: How much footage have you been able to find on Stojnic and is it difficult to train for a guy that you haven't had the opportunity to watch fight much?
CV: I have seen a couple of his fights on YouTube so I have been able to watch him fight.
PC: From what you have seen of Stojnic, are you impressed? What do you think of him as a fighter?
CV: Dennis is a strong guy with an aggressive style. I think he is tough and it will be an exciting fight.
PC: It would appear that all of the pressure is on you because no one really knows much about Denis at this point and, on paper, you're supposed to win. We know fights are not fought on paper so what type of fight are you expecting from the Bosnian?
CV: I expect a fast-paced fight. No pressure. I have to beat whoever is in the cage with me.
PC: No opponent has ever made it out of the 1st round with you. Can we expect much of the same on the 7th in Florida?
CV: I am trained to fight the whole 3 rounds, but it is nice to end them early.
PC: Until you go into the deep waters, I'm sure people will question whether you have a gas tank or not. How is your cardio if you had to go all 3 rounds?
CV: When I wrestled, I was known for my cardio and now, with the people I train with, the story is still the same. I have good cardio.
PC: Looking at your record and seeing how all of your fights have ended by TKO, you wouldn't think you had an extensive wrestling background. Stojnic's background is in kickboxing so can we expect to see some of your wrestling be utilized in this fight?
CV: My team and I have a gameplan. Everyone will see it on February 7th.
PC: What is it that you feel you bring to the table that other heavyweights in the UFC lack? What will separate you from the rest of the pack?
CV: I feel all of the UFC heavyweights are good and don't lack anything. I train hard to be really well-rounded in all aspects of MMA.
PC: What can the fans in Tampa expect from Cain Velasquez on February 7th?
CV: A fast-paced and aggressive fight every time I'm in the cage.
PC: Good luck to you my man. Thanks for your time. Is there anything you want to say in closing; anybody you want to thank?
CV: I want to thank God, my mom and dad and Zinkin Entertainment for all the support and guidance.
