"He's an experienced guy. I don't think that it's gonna be a difference that it's his first fight in the UFC. He's been headlining the WEC lots of times...I'll try to beat him any way I can. Submission or knockout, I don't care," stated UFC welterweight Martin Kampmann as he talked about his upcoming clash with Carlos Condit at UFC Fight Night 18. Check it out!
PC: How is your training going for your Fight Night 18 fight against Carlos Condit?
MK: Going good; training hard. Getting ready to kick some butt!
PC: Do you feel like your body is totally adjusted to the 170-pound weight class now?
MK: Yeah, the cut was no problem at all.
PC: Was the Nate Marquardt fight a sign to you that you needed to move down or did you think you could make 170 so you wanted to try it?
MK: I've been considering moving down for a while. I knew I could make it. I've never been very heavy for 185. Lots of people been asking me to move down for a while and after the loss, I thought I'd give it a try.
PC: You were very impressive in your last fight against Barros. How important was that fight as far as a confidence builder?
MK: Thanks. It felt good to get a win.
PC: Carlos Condit is a tough opponent and the reigning WEC welterweight champion. What do you think of him as a fighter?
MK: I think he's very good. Good stand up and godd submissions too. It should be a good fight.
PC: You guys are very similar in skill, being well-rounded on the ground as well as striking. What do you think will be the difference between the two of you on the 1st?
MK: Yeah, I can see some similarities. That's what makes it an exciting match-up. I think I'm better though.
PC: This is the first UFC event in Tennessee and your first time headlining. How does it feel my man?
MK: Feels good. It's an honor to be the main event. I'll do the best to make it a fight to remember.
PC: Although Condit has a ton of experience, he has none in the UFC. How much does that play into your favor, the fact that you're a UFC veteran?
MK: He's an experienced guy. I don't think that it's gonna be a difference that it's his first fight in the UFC. He's been headlining the WEC lots of times.
PC: Training at Xtreme Couture, I'm sure you are preparing and will be ready for everything, but what do you feel is the biggest danger Condit possesses?
MK: He's got real good submissions and a dangerous Thai clinch.
PC: It's been awhile since Carlos has lost a fight. How do you see this fight going and what do you feel you have to do to give him a loss?
MK: I'll try to beat him any way I can. Submission or knockout, I don't care. I'm just gonna try to push the action and keep him guessing.
PC: Good luck in April my man. Is there anything you want to say in closing; anybody you want to thank?
MK: Thanks to all the fans supporting me. Thanks to Hitman Fight Gear, xtreme couture and to mmaagents.com!
