Though younger boxing fans may know renowned trainer Roger Mayweather only for his stellar work in the gym and the corner of his nephew, pound-for-pound great Floyd Mayweather, Roger initially made his reputation in the fight game as a two-division world champion whose ability to take foes down earned him the nickname "The Black Mamba."
Roger Mayweather also had another nickname, "The Mexicutioner," which he earned his victories over some of the top Mexican fighters of the 80's. This tradition has been picked up by Floyd Mayweather, who has gone 7-0 with 4 knockouts against natives of Mexico. Add in the fighters he has defeated of Mexican descent, including Oscar de la Hoya and Genaro Hernandez, and that may spell bad news for the man he's fighting on July 18th, Mexico City's own Juan Manuel Marquez.
But just as Julio Cesar Chavez broke Roger Mayweather's streak, Marquez hopes to break Floyd Mayweather's this summer.
