Undefeated jr. welterweight Mike Alvarado (26-0, 18 KOs) was forced to pull out of his scheduled June 17 clash with Paulie Malignaggi due to an elbow he injured earlier in the week. The bout was set to take place on a Top Rank pay-per-view card headlined by WBO junior featherweight champion Juan Manuel Lopez taking on Olivier Lontchi. Sources close to the information have just informed us that undefeated lightweight Anthony Peterson (28-0, 19 KOs) has been tabbed as a possible replacement.
Peterson, who is promoted by Top Rank, has fought the majority of his career as a lightweight, but he has had at least three fights at or above the jr. welterweight limit of 140 pounds. In his last fight, he won a ten-round unanimous decision over Javier Jauregui in August of last year. Malignaggi is coming off an eight-round unanimous decision win over Christopher Fernandez this past April.
