FLOYD MAYWEATHER SR.: "LIL FLOYD GOING TO STOP HIM"

By Percy Crawford | June 08, 2009
FLOYD MAYWEATHER SR.:

"I'm going to be helping Lil Floyd out here and there. Me and Lil Floyd alright now. I'm going to go back into town and help out a littleÂ…you know, everybody lose something in a layoff; I don't care who you are, but he hasn't lost nothing like that. He's still sharp, still clever and he's beating everybody down. He's beating there brains out down there. Floyd is looking good," stated world-renowned trainer Floyd Mayweather Sr. as he talked about working with his son for his upcoming clash with Juan Manuel Marquez, a potential fight with Manny Pacquiao and much, much more. Check it out!

PC: How are you feeling today? I know you said yesterday you had been sick and on the couch for a couple of days.

FM: Everything is going great!

PC: I know you're back in Michigan right now. How is it going down there?

FM: Everything is going pretty good. It's copasetic.

PC: Did you get a chance to watch the Berto fight and if so, what did you think?

FM: I didn't get a chance to watch that fight. Somebody told me it was on, but I didn't take the time to watch it. What did you think about the fight?

PC: I didn't think it was his greatest performance. He never really established himself in that fight, but we'll see.

FM: For real?

PC: Yeah! How about the rematch between Antonio Tarver and Chad Dawson? Did you see that one?

FM: That was a lousy fight. Being honest about it, and not just me, but everybody's saying he don't look like the same Chad. I was looking at the fight from a fans point of view and I just didn't see nothing exciting. He just don't look like he's going to be an exciting fighter like my son said he was going to be. I haven't seen him turn it on since I left him. The guys that he is fighting, he should be able to turn it on. He should be able to do that. What about this other guy that he was supposed to be fighting? What happened to that? He's getting ready to fight Glen Johnson again, but he was supposed to fight somebody else.

PC: You're talking about Tavoris Cloud. I don't think a network would pick that fight up, so he vacated the title for a rematch with Johnson.

FM: That's the fight he should do anyway; old as Glen Johnson is. Truth about it is he shouldn't be the true world champion. This fight with Johnson must have had to be made for him to take it because he said in the ring after the first Johnson fight that he didn't want anymore of that.

PC: I would have preferred a Johnson rematch as opposed to another fight with Tarver any day.

FM: Yeah! I just think thatÂ…I'm going to be honest man, I don't know, just watching him fight, I don't see much spark out of him. He hasn't advanced any. There is nothing that will catch your eye when he's fighting; nothing extraordinary. He better be glad these aren't the fighter's from the 70's and 80's or shit; he would be in the world of trouble. Even the guy training him would have stopped his ass. Mustafa would have put something on his ass back then; fighting the way he fights now, please! Tarver is another old guy man. He's old too man.

PC: Tarver looked like he just can't pull that trigger like he used to anymore.

FM: You're exactly right and when you can't pull the trigger anymore, it's over with. If you can't pull the trigger man, it's over.

PC: Have you talked to Ricky Hatton?

FM: No! Uh, uh! We haven't had no conversation. They tried to make me look like the bad guy because I left the ring early. I'm not going to stand over nobody and look at somebody sleep. I'm not no paramedic man. It was nothing I could do about it. What would I get out of standing there and looking at him in that condition? I don't know what happened, but I'm just now getting my money. I should have been got it about 10 days after the fight. It took much longer for me to get it, but I did get it. Ricky Hatton ain't doing no good man.

PC: I know you think he should retire.

FM: Yeah he should. He fought the top 2 guys and he got knocked out both times. There is nothing left for him to do. He won the championship twice, so ain't nothing left for him to do but retire. He got enough money to live the rest of his life.

PC: Are you excited to see Lil Floyd back in the ring and fighting again?

FM: Yeah. I'm going to be helping Lil Floyd out here and there. Me and Lil Floyd alright now. I'm going to go back into town and help out a little.

PC: What kind of fight do you think Marquez will pose against Lil Floyd?

FM: I think he's going to pose a target. I think he's going to get hit with everything. I've been seeing Lil Floyd down there already and he's looking real good.

PC: So he hasn't looked like he lost much in his layoff?

FM: Well, you know, everybody lose something in a layoff; I don't care who you are, but he hasn't lost nothing like that. He's still sharp, still clever and he's beating everybody down. He's beating there brains out down there. Floyd is looking good.

PC: A lot of people think Manny Pacquiao is unbeatable right now. Would you agree with that?

FM: He ain't no unbeatable fighter man, believe me. Lil Floyd going to stop him. Watch what I tell you.

PC: You said that with Hatton too.

FM: We ain't dealing with no Ricky Hatton now. This the real deal. This is a different monster here. Ricky had the knowledge, but he wasn't the athlete to pull out the strategy. This is an entirely different monster.

PC: What else do you have going on my man?

FM: I ain't really been doing too much man. I'm laid back right now, getting a little rest and I got enough money to live like I want to live I'm not worried about that stuff man. What I'm going to do right now is help my son a little bit; show him some things to help him out and find me a good race horse and build them up.

PC: How much longer will you be in Michigan?

FM: I'm supposed to leave out of here Wednesday, but it all depends I might stay a few more days.

PC: You're out there visiting your mom Big Floyd?

FM: Yeah, my mom is out here. My family lives here too.

PC: Well, I'll let you visit. I hear you're getting a nice crowd around you. I'll holla at you soon my man.

FM: Okay Percy. I'll call you when I get back to Vegas and let you know what I have going on.
