JAKE ROSHOLT: "I CAN BEAT LEBEN ANYWHERE"

By Percy Crawford | July 22, 2009
JAKE ROSHOLT:

"I never really cared about being an undefeated fighter. I just want to go out there and fight my best every fight. Last fight against Dan Miller, I never really got a chance to do that. I would defiantly like to have that one to do over again...I can beat Leben anywhere the fight is at. He definitely has some heavy hands and you have to be aware of that, but I won't be out there just trying to take him down and relying solely on that," stated UFC middleweight Jake Rosholt as the talked about his upcoming clash with Chris Leben at UFC 102. Check it out!

PC: How is everything going Jake?

JR: Everything is going great.

PC: I'm sure you've begin training for your August 29th fight against Chris Leben. How is training coming along?

JR: Training is going good; just trying to get better every day and get ready to fight Leben.

PC: Are you still doing some of your training at Xtreme Couture?

JR: I have not been doing much training at Xtreme Couture this time around. Previously, I have trained for my fights over there, but have not seen much of that gym so far for this camp.

PC: You are coming off of your first professional loss to Dan Miller in February. Does that take a lot of pressure off of you now that you're not this undefeated fighter?

JR: I never really cared about being an undefeated fighter. I just want to go out there and fight my best every fight. Last fight against Dan Miller, I never really got a chance to do that. I would defiantly like to have that one to do over again, but hey, you live and you learn.

PC: It appears that first fight UFC jitters is the real deal. Do you feel a lot more relaxed for this camp as opposed to when you were preparing for your UFC debut?

JR: I think that my nerves come from just being inexperienced, not from just fighting my first fight in the UFC.  Each and every fight, I get more and more comfortable stepping into the Octagon.

PC: What was the transition from the WEC to the UFC like for you?

JR: Simple! It really was no change so far. I am sure this next fight will be quite different; just going to be a much bigger stage.

PC: Leben is a very dangerous striker. Do you feel the key to victory for you is to use your wrestling and pound him out?

JR: I can beat Leben anywhere the fight is at. He definitely has some heavy hands and you have to be aware of that, but I won't be out there just trying to take him down and relying solely on that.

PC: You have finished every fight by KO, TKO or submission. Leben has only been KOed by Anderson Silva and the only person to submit him was Jason Macdonald. Do you feel you can join those two and stop Leben?

JR: I am going out there to perform and to win the fight. If a submission comes along that I can secure or if I knock him out, well, I'll damn sure be happy about it.

PC: Is the goal to prove to UFC and mixed martial arts fans that the Jake Rosholt that they saw against Miller was not the real Jake Rosholt?

JR: The UFC and all the fans will know after this fight what to expect from me.

PC: Obviously both of you guys are very tough, but you are the complete opposite as far as fighting style. What do you think will separate the two of you at UFC 102?

JR: I think that I have the potential to make the fight happen where I want it to and I believe that will be a factor in what happens in the fight.

PC: Thanks for your time. Good luck next month in Oregon. Is there anything you want to say in closing; anybody you want to thank?

JR: Watch UFC 102!
