"I was surprised he didn't initiate the clinch more than he normally does. I think he got confident because he caught me a few times...I will fight swick the same as I did Kampmaan. I belive Martin is tougher than Swick," stated UFC lightweight Paul Daley as he talked about his future plans after his impressive victory over Martin Kampmann at UFC 103. Check it out!
PC: Congratulations on the win Paul.
PD: Thanks very much my friend.
PC: Were you a bit surprised he was so willing to stand and trade with you?
PD: Nope, he trades for a little in all his fight, I was surprised he didn't initiate the clinch more than he normally does. I think he got confident because he caught me a few times.
PC: A lot of talk is that it was a premature stoppage. How do you feel about the stoppage?
PD: If you could see his eyes, you would know the stoppage was justified.
PC: You came out with your typical stalker mentality. Did your gameplan work to a tee in there Saturday night?
PD: Yes. Keep the pressure, aviod the clinch, throw more than one shot at a time, throw hard and don't kick.
PC: You had to be in a good place mentally for this fight. You made weight with no problem and you truly had nothing to lose.
PD: Nope. In my mind, I had everything to lose. The UK and my international fans have been calling for me in the UFC for a long time. I had that pressure.
PC: You received a lot of boos entering the cage, which I'm sure you expected to a degree, but what was the ring walk like for you for your UFC debut?
PD: I didn't hear no boos before the fight. After, yeah, but before, I heard nothing. I always have my iPod in.
PC: Kampmann attempted a couple of single legs, but was unsuccessful in his attempts. You told me before the fight that your takedown defense was tight. How much had you been working on that?
PD: A lot, but his takedown attempts where half-hearted. I wish he tried harder, so I could prove myself.
PC: You've put yourself in a great situation with that win. A possible fight with Mike Swick could be on the horizon. How do you view Swick and do you think his willingness to stand more plays right into your hands?
PD: Yes, I will fight swick the same as I did Kampmaan. I belive Martin is tougher than Swick.
PC: You've fought in the States before for other organizations, but do you feel this was your introduction to the world, being that this fight was on the big stage of the UFC?
PD: Yes, it was to the mainstream fans and I think the majority received me really well.
PC: Hey man, it's always a pleasure to watch you fight because you bring it every single time. Congrats again. Is there anything you want to say in closing?
PD: Thanks to the fans, the UFC, my team, Rough House and Mike's gym, and all my sponsors for the event: Maximuscle, Hyabusa, MMA Dogma, MMA Overload, Affliction, FightShop.com and Ecko.
