It's time for Pac Fans to unite, but not to provide support for pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao. It's not time to criticize other fighters for the sake of defending the Pacman and it's also not time to worry about minute distractions that may be affecting him while he trains for his upcoming clash with Miguel Cotto. Any problems that he may have been dealing with before now pale in comparison to what he and his countrymen are currently facing. It is time for Pacquiao fans and people around the world, regardless of race, creed or color, to lend their support and prayers to the people in the Philippines.
Yesterday, the country experienced the wrath of Typhoon Kestana. It was a disaster that rivaled that of Hurricane Katrina. A month's worth of rain poured in bringing flash floods and mudslides that caused dams to overflow, damaged structures and resulted in numerous casualties in just a matter of hours in and around the Metro Manila and surrounding cities.
According to a report on CNN, an estimated 400,000 people were affected. At this time, many people are still stranded on rooftops without any food or water. So far, 142 are reported dead, which doesn't take into account the countless number of people still missing.
And the disaster may not be over yet as another typhoon is expected to hit the country in a couple of days. For now, let us hope and pray that the people in the Philippines, like their hero Manny Pacquiao, will stay strong and overcome the challenge that has been placed before them.
