FightHype.com caught up with world-renowned trainer Floyd Mayweather Sr. to get his take on what happened when Floyd Mayweather Jr. was confronted by Shane Mosley immediately following his dominant unanimous decision victory over Juan Manuel Marquez. "Man, like I told Bernard, he knows Lil Floyd would box circles around Shane Mosley. And Cotto showed that that can be done," stated the elder Mayweather, who was in the ring with his son when Team Mayweather was approached by both Shane Mosley and Bernard Hopkins. "I was right there, so if he would've tried something, he was going to catch an ass whooping from the older Mayweather," he continued as he laughed about the incident.
Big Floyd didn't hesitate to share his opinion on why he thinks Mosley is now eager to face Mayweather Jr. "All joking aside though, I can tell you for a fact my son has tried to fight Mosley at least 3 times and they turned it down every time. Shane is mad that Lil Floyd back in the spotlight," he added, "His wife done probably took all of his money and now he's looking to make some big money fighting my son."
Many fans are anxiously waiting to hear who Mayweather Jr. is targeting for his next opponent. The two names that continue to be brought up in discussion are Manny Pacquiao and Shane Mosley. Although Mayweather Sr. is extremely confident that Lil Floyd will beat both men with ease, he may be advising his son to lean more towards Pacquiao (or Cotto should he win on November 14th) as he doesn't think there's quite as much demand for a showdown with Mosley. "I was never impressed with Antonio Margarito and that's why my son never gave him a fight and that's why no one is knocking at Shane's door to fight him because no one has been impressed with Margarito. That win means nothing," he remarked.
It remains to be seen as to whether or not Mosley's actions may have hindered his chance of getting a shot at Mayweather. Like it or not though, it appears that Floyd is proving that in the end, no matter who you are, be it Shane Mosley, Manny Pacquiao or Miguel Cotto, all roads do indeed lead to him!
