While many assume that Floyd Mayweather Jr.'s next opponent will likely be the winner of the November 14th clash between Manny Pacquiao and Miguel Cotto, it appears that Team Mayweather is exploring other options. "They talking about December, but I don't know. I would like to see him stay busy though," stated world-renowned trainer Floyd Mayweather Sr. as he talked about the future plans of his son in a recent interview with FightHype.com.
Given the recent article, an excellent one I might add, written by Thomas Hauser of Secondsout.com, it's highly unlikely that Floyd will be fighting again this year as HBO Sports has exhausted their 2009 budget. However, Mayweather could return to action as early as January or February of next year. If so, it's doubtful that Manny Pacquiao or Miguel Cotto will be eager to fight again so soon after their November encounter, leaving Mayweather to look elsewhere for a dance partner.
Does that mean the door has been opened for a potential Mayweather vs. Mosley clash in January? Time will tell.
