| FightHype.com caught up with Patrick "The Predator" Cote to discuss his upcoming clash with Kendall Grove at UFC 74. Check out what he had to say about what to expect as he assures the fans that the fight won't go the distance.
PC: How are you doing Pat?
PC: I'm really good. I'm in the best shape of my life and training hard as hell.
PC: How has training been going for your UFC 74 fight against Kendall Grove?
PC: The training is going very well. I'm in Boston right now at Sityodtong Academy with Mark Dellagrotte. I'm here for another week and then I go back to Montreal with my Team BTT Canada to finish my training.
PC: Who are some of the guys you are training with to prepare for Kendall?
PC: Here in Boston, I have really good Muay Thai fighters who are 6'5 and 6'4 so that's really good for me. And in Montreal, I have a lot of tall guys to wrestle with so I'll be ready for sure.
PC: Kendall is a 6'6 middleweight. Was it tough to find these tall guys to spar with in preparation for this fight?
PC: No, like I said, I'm lucky to have those guys here in Boston who are tall like that and very good too. We did the right thing to adjust the training and the strategy to fight a guy tall like that.
PC: I spoke with Kendall the other day and he had a lot of respect for you. He called you a great fighter and a tough veteran. What do you think of him as a fighter?
PC: Kendall gets better and better each time he fights. I have a lot of respect for him and I'm sure the fight will be a real war.
PC: You like to stand and bang, but do you think with Kendall's reach, you will be able to find your range against him or will you look to shoot and take the fight to the ground?
PC: I would be a really stupid guy if I tell you my strategy right now (laughing)…. No really, we did our homework for this fight and we have a good gameplan.
PC: You're giving up close to 7 inches in height. How do you go about chopping down that tree?
PC: I will bring my chainsaw and cut from the bottom. No, seriously, I'm sure I'm 10 times more powerful than him, so I'll go there and do my stuff. I'm very, very confident about all my skills for this fight.
PC: In his 3 losses, Grove has been stopped (2 KO's and 1 submission). Do you plan on testing his chin early in this fight?
PC: I will test his chin, I will test his cardio and I will test all of his skills. When the bell rings, that will be a hell of fight. Trust me.
PC: In your last UFC fight against Scott Smith, you fought very cautious. Is that because you knew you needed a win in the UFC?
PC: For sure. And even if I rocked him, we saw what he did against Pete Sell. He was still dangerous. I wanted this win so bad that I was staying in my gameplan, but don't worry, for the next fight, before the bell to end the second round, the fight will be done.
PC: What can we expect from Pat Cote in this fight?
PC: A lot of improvement from everywhere. I will be aggressive and maybe show some tricky moves that I keep in my pocket.
PC: What advantages do you feel like you have coming into the octagon over Kendall?
PC: I feel that I'm more powerful than him and stronger. He will be scared to lose against me because he knows that I'm better than my UFC record, but you don't want to lose against a guy whose 1-4 in the UFC.
PC: You recently had a fight outside of the UFC. How does it feel to be back on the big stage?
PC: Feels great! The UFC is the top and it's an honor to fight for them. I've won 2 in a row in the UFC right now and I see me winning 3 in a row after August 25th.
PC: Good luck on the 25th. Is there anything you want to say in closing?
PC: I just want to say thanks to my Team BTT Canada and Sityodtong Academy; my manager Stephane Patry and my entire sponsors. You can check my page on www.myspace.com/patcote. Thank you!
