"I've done over a million homes by myself! By myself! Now we got Pacquiao and Miguel Cotto, two guys who have a pretty cool fan base, so if they do more homes than Floyd Mayweather, more power to them, but they supposed to. I don't have no dance partner. I don't have no dance partner. Like I said before, I can do millions of homes by myself," stated undefeated Floyd Mayweather Jr. as he shared his thoughts on the possibility of last weekend's clash between Manny Pacquiao and Miguel Cotto doing more pay-per-view buys than his own bout with Juan Manuel Marquz this past September.
"That's the difference between Floyd Mayweather and the rest of these fighters because, once again, Floyd Mayweather is an entertainer. These guys, these fighters, once again, they are fighters. There's a difference. When you see Pacquiao, he's just a fighter. Miguel Cotto, he's just a fighter. Floyd Mayweather, he's an entertainter. I can go outside of the sport of boxing and make millions because I've done it before. I've done it before," he continued in an exclusive interview with Adam Smith of Sky Sports.
For the record, Mayweather has participated in just 3 pay-per-view events that have generated one million or more buys, his bouts with De La Hoya and Marquez and his appearance at Wrestlemania XXIV. Although his matchup with De La Hoya broke the record with 2.4 million buys, I highly doubt that anyone, including Floyd, could discredit De La Hoya's own contributions to those lofty numbers. Furthermore, while his showdown with the Big Show was entertaining, something tells me that the Triple Threat Match between Randy Orton, Triple H and John Cena, the Career Threatening Match between Shawn Michaels and Ric Flair, the Money in the Bank Ladder Match and the 24-man Battle Royal were the real reasons why wrestling fans were tuning in. That being said, when Mayweather says he can do millions of homes by himself, one can only assume that he's referring to his bout with Juan Manuel Marquez. Although Pacquiao has yet to try his hand at wrestling, the bout with Cotto will be his second pay-per-view event that generates over one million buys, the first being his showdown with Oscar De La Hoya. As far as I'm concerned, when it comes to making millions, both fighters are tied, but when it comes to entertainment inside the boxing ring, well, I'll take the guy that Mayweather calls a fighter.
